Peacefully, with family at her side, Germaine passed away at the age of 103.
Leaving to mourn her passing are her children, Rose-Marie Olafson (August), Charles, Michel (Gail); one brother Chris Laporte; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased in 1997 by her beloved husband of 51 years, Albert; her parents, Louis and Germaine Laporte; sisters: Yvonne Rouire, Suzanne Augert, Marie Chanel, and by one infant sister Odette.
Germaine was born in Somerset, MB. She later moved to Winnipeg and worked at the St. Boniface Hospital. In 1946, she married Albert Roy in St. Norbert, where they established their home, embracing the community and raising their family, including several foster children, many who remained close to her. She worked for several years at St. Norbert Co-op. Generous, caring, and deeply devoted to her faith, she was a role model to many, helping and praying for everyone who needed some help with life's challenges. She was an active volunteer, especially in the Catholic Women's League and the St. Norbert Parish.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home who provided exceptional care to Germaine over the last three years.
She will be deeply missed by the many whose lives she touched.
Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 13 at St. Norbert Roman Catholic Church, 80 Rue St. Pierre Street, Winnipeg.

  • Dear Rose-Marie and August and family, With our deepest respects and love, we hold your mum and dad, Germaine and Albert in our hearts forever. Mrs Roy as everyone knew her in St Norbert with Albert; was the Light and Faith of our community long ago for us as a small family. We were your neighbours on Rue du Convent and shared your faith and laughs and love of our family and friends with the Roys. Our parents, Noreen and Noel (deceased) and my sister and I live in deepest gratitude for Germaine's love, care and prayers as our dear mum died as your mum cared for her in her last few years and mum's final days. God and His Angels will surround your dear mum with Love and Grace for the love she showed this world her special gift of love, prayer and giving. Always in our prayers, Geraldine and Tony and for Noreen and Noel. Tony Jordan - Posted by: Tony Jordan (Family Friends ) on: Dec 15, 2019

  • My mother, Alice Lindal and I were only fortunate to meet Germaine in the last 2!/2 years at St. Norbert Personal Care Home when Alice moved in, but she soon became one of our best friends. Germaine was the meeter and greeter there. She sat in the middle table and each meal greeted each resident with a huge smile and called them all by name. Everyone started their meal with a happy heart because of Germaine. She read the menu on the wall to all who asked her - without the help of glasses! She treated all the staff with her grateful attitude and was loved by everyone. We enjoyed our after dinner visits with her when she told us about family and her long life. She prayed for everyone with her rosary and encouraged all of us. My Mom and I were blessed by her love and friendship. Thank God for this beautiful lady and her family! God be with Germaine and her family! - Posted by: Loretta Clarke (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2019

  • Mes sinceres condolences a la famille. Je me suis une petite fille de Mme. Georgette Major (feu). My sincere condolences to the family, I am a granddaughter of Mrs. Georgette Major (deceased). Georgette and Mrs. Roy were neighbours, companions in the Catholic Women's league and parishoners of St. Norbert Parish. I had resided with Georgette for many years, and frequently visited Mrs. Roy or Mrs. Roy would come and visit with the currently serving Priest. Always a bright and jovial smile on her face to welcome anyone, generous, and there was no doubt as to the strength and volume of her voice when singing at Church. Always a gentle spirit. She will be dearly missed. Cathy - Posted by: Cathy Erickson (Long term friend/neighbour) on: Dec 11, 2019
