DERWIN (RALPH) ALFRED WING
April 3, 1958 - December 6, 2019

Peacefully, after a courageous three year, ten month battle with cancer, Derwin (Ralph) passed away, with his family by his side, at Concordia Hospital on December 6, 2019 at the age of 61.
Derwin was born and raised in Melville, Saskatchewan. He married Brenda (Halyk) on May 17, 1986 and in 1987 his career with the CN brought them to Winnipeg. He became a proud father to Dakota and Destiny on November 26, 1990. After 36 years of service, he retired from the CN in 2013. In his retirement he spent time golfing, travelling, and at the farm in Saskatchewan.
His memory will be cherished by his wife Brenda, son Dakota, daughter Destiny (Cody), and he will be missed dearly by family and friends. Derwin will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud father, a caring brother, a fun uncle, a golf buddy, a good friend, and as the Smartie Man.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Oncology Department and all the staff at Concordia Hospital that provided care for him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Derwin's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (Concordia Hospital Oncology Department).
A celebration of Derwin's life will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg.

Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • I was very sad and deeply sorry to hear of Ralph’s passing. I to have many, many memories of Ralph growing up together in Melville from grade one, until we graduated together. We still have the wedding gift of a clock, with his name on the back. Almost forty years ago. As a kid, I found out Derwins middle name was Ralph. The cat was out of the bag, so to speak. I remember saying to him, Ralph! He once heard my mom call me Shelley. The game was on from that moment. Time slipped by CN had there hand with my move to Winnipeg, with Ralph to follow years later. I would sincerely like to remember that we were still friends in spite of distance and time. I am profoundly sorry for your loss. I have many fond stories and memories. - Posted by: Sheldon Liebrecht (Friend) on: Mar 23, 2020
