FRANK SHIFFMAN

Peacefully, with family at his side, Frank passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, after a brief illness, at the age of 91.
He was the youngest son, and fifth of six children of Katie and Louis Shiffman.
He will be sadly and lovingly missed by his wife Myrna (Lerner) of 62 years, daughters, Lesli Trottier (Gerry) and Lisa Odwak (Harry), grandchildren, Lindsay Stern (Marc LaFerriere), Jordan Stern, Cori Odwak and Zach Odwak, and adored granddog Leo. Also his younger sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Burt Cohen of Los Angeles, sister-in-law Madeline Shiffman of Chicago, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pearl and Mickey Rosenberg of Winnipeg, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Katie Shiffman, in-laws, Max and Millie Lerner, brothers, Benny, Max, Dave and Norman, nephew Larry Rosenberg.
A salesman "extraordinaire", he spent the largest part of his formal career with Fleming Pedlar Refrigeration until he retired and joined forces with his wife Myrna in the vending business. This was a perfect fit as he could visit and "schmooz" with clients everyday. He was a people person, loved to chat about absolutely everything one could imagine. He knew facts about sports, business, people and more... and was a walking map of Winnipeg in his day. He could have a great conversation with any age group, any profession and could often be the center of attention in a group, entertaining with a joke or story.
At the same time he was a very humble person. He appreciated the simple things in life - family being number one. Although not overly religious, he was a traditionalist, and proud of being Jewish. Pride in his family was second to none, his wife, children and grandchildren were always the best.
In his quiet way, he would often have some helpful advice to give, but was never pushy or overstepping boundaries, always wanting only the best for his family. A true example of the word "mensch" - he was honest, genuine, caring, had a generally happy disposition and usually saw the best in people.
Frank loved the over 40 years of winter vacations to Hawaii with Myrna, and many summer weekends at Leaside Beach with family and friends and he will be missed by so many friends there. He lived a wonderful life and gave us all many beautiful memories and things to smile and laugh about.
Funeral service was held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, led by Rabbi Matthew Leibl. Interment at Rosh Pina Memorial Park followed. Pallbearers were his sons-in-law, Harry Odwak and Gerry Trottier, and grandchildren, Lindsay, Jordan, Cori and Zach. Honorary pallbearer was grandson Marc.
Thank you to Dr. Kevin Coates for ongoing care and support, Dr. Ben Fultz and Dr. George, and the wonderful nursing/aide staff on 3rd and 5th floor of the Grace Hospital for the three weeks Frank was there.
If friends so desire, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or your favourite cause would be appreciated.
