ALLAN ROBERT BALAK
Born in Brandon, May 2, 1947
He will be greatly missed by his family, David, Keith, Sandie, Ashley and Marg; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends.
He was a generous person and father.
We are having a Celebration of Life at the Norwood Legion, 134 Marion Street, Friday December 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
We will always love and miss you.

I just wanted to send a BIG thank you for all the wonderful comments and memories of my Dad. He was truly wonderful to me and I will miss him so much. It is wonderful to see that he touched so many people in his life- this brings me great happiness that he had all of you. He loved his work and connecting with others. I am in disbelief as I just saw this notice! Al was the kindest and truly a genuine soul. I am going to miss his daily wisecracks and his cheery hello and good byes. He always brightened my day. I am so very sorry for your loss. Heaven has certainly gained a true angel that I’m sure will keep them all on their toes. To quote the late American poet and author Maya Angelou, "people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Reflecting on Al's passing, these words kept coming to mind - and, when you read the many tributes, it is clear why. Everyone at the Canada Revenue Agency ("CRA") knew and loved Al. He was a wonderful man, who always had a smile on his face, and exuded kindness, warmth, and happiness. Every day, as each of us would leave the CRA building, Al would always wish us "a good night," "a great weekend," or "a safe ride home." His positive attitude was infectious and lit up the lives of everyone he came into contact with. In short, Al made each of us at the CRA feel valued and special. Al, we miss you and will never forget you. My deepest condolences to the Balak family. Al has been a blessing in so many ways, and I'm quite sure it is evident from all the stories shared that he is loved very much. I know I am one of many who feel this way. Al certainly added sunshine to each day. I feel privileged to have had the chance to get to know him, share laughter, and trade smart alec comments with him. I'm still wishing that I'll still see him as soon as I enter or before leaving the building but heaven has gained another angel. He always wear that wonderful smile and make it a point to greet you, and that will start or end my day at work right. I will pray for his wonderful soul. I hope that by hearing all of these messages from Al's work place, it will help ease your grief. His gesture of addressing each and every person that entered and left the building each day may have seemed small to him but it is obvious how much he affected all of these people. I really appreciated this gesture - it made a sometimes really bad day so much better. "Good night Miss or Have a good weekend Miss"...and always with a big smile on his face. I am still in shock and am so sad to hear of Al's passing. To say he was a ray of sunshine in my day would not be enough. What a genuine kind and funny man your dad was, he will be missed so much. I am very saddened with Al's sudden passing. There wasn't a day that went by when we didn't exchange a joke or two while competing to have the better "come back". Al's cheery comments were a great start or end to a great many people at our work. I was fortunate to get a chance to golf with Al this summer and what a great day was had. He often commented that I better get in better shape for next years golf tourney. Will be thinking of him on the course. I will miss seeing Al in the afternoons at work, I’ll definitely miss his “have a goodnight”, and “have a good weekend” ...sometimes I would try and beat him to the comment, it was hard though, he was pretty quick!!! My Condolences to you and yours. He was a good man, friend and co-worker. He could put a smile on my face with his witty comebacks. Every time we'd work together. I enjoyed the breakfasts at Salisbury house after our shifts. Al Balak had a big impact as a friend and co-worker. Out of all the things Al tought me, I enjoyed the times he would teach me how to play Crib, boy did the man love playing crib. Growing up Al and Marg's house was a second home to me! They always welcomed me with open arms! I have many fond memories of Al and will never forget him! I was very sad to hear of his passing. I met Al at work about 2 years ago, his smile and friendly greeting became something I looked forward to every day I went to work. He always seemed to enjoy his job and I know everyone I work with is filled with sadness to know that we no longer have his genuinely friendly greeting us when we arrive. I will miss seeing him at work and wish all his family love and support and want you to know how much he meant to so many people!!!! Great man. I held him in high regards and will miss him dearly. We chatted about everything, about the past, to the future, from serious topics to fantasy novels. We shared a love for the same literature and would lend each other books and suggest reading materials. We understood each other and could make snarky remarks to one another out of respect, something the world has forgotten these days. He was the greatest guy to see at work on a daily basis. Daily he would pass on happiness to everyone who walked past him. “Have a great evening!” “Have a great weekend!” Every day for every person that walked past him. When some one you admire becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure... He was so cheerful and greeted us every time we entered or left the building.
