CAMAL RAMNANAN MAHARAJ
1934 - 2019
"It is our belief that the Soul is part of the Divine Essence and by nature, pure and perfect, infinite in power and blessed, was never created, will never die, but will pass from stage to stage until it achieves perfection." (Upanishads)
Over the course of the next 50 years Camal worked hard pursuing this dream; a dream that was achieved due to her perseverance and strong work ethic; both of which were an inspiration to her children. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, caring for others at the Health Sciences Centre for 25 years, while raising her children. Alongside her role as a mother and nurse, Camal loved to bring her extended family together for celebrations. Her home was often the gathering place for entertaining relatives during Christmas, special out of town visits, and reunions. Camal leaves behind her husband, Mahadeo Sooksagar Maharaj (married 59 years), who she loved dearly and cared for until her last day. Also left behind are her four children and three sons-in-law: Suenita (Sudhir), Anjanie (Dave), Vidya (Allan) and Winston. As her greatest legacy, she leaves behind seven grandchildren: Anjali, Darius, Antara, Shivani, Anaka, Tamir and Anya, who were her greatest joy and pride. Additionally, she leaves behind her siblings: Karma Maharaj, Dr. Gunness Maharaj (Alice), and Seeta Maharaj. She will be missed dearly by her family including cousins, nieces and nephews from across Canada, USA, Trinidad and the UK.
Camal is predeceased by her eldest brother and his wife, Dr. Bharat Maharaj and Georgette, and by her younger sister Radha Singh.
The family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital staff for their compassionate care during her final hours: Dr. Al Buchel, Jessica and Alanna. We also thank Pundit Balram and Lalita Monguru for their guidance and support.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer Society.
