SHARON FREED
Sharon cherished and leaves to mourn her two daughters, Andrea and Nicole, her sister Marilyn (David), her niece Shoshauna (Jonathan), her nephew Josh (Anisa), two great-nephews, Brendan and Eliezer, her great-niece, Lucy, many cousins, countless friends and students. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Joseph Beloff.
Sharon Rosa was born on December 1, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended Victory School, Jefferson Jr. High, Garden City Collegiate, Manitoba Teachers' College and the University of Manitoba, where she earned her degree in Education.
Sharon began her career at I.L. Peretz Folk School and Christ the King. She then taught at Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate, (later known as Gray Academy) for the remainder of her 47-year teaching career. She retired in 2015.
It is impossible to think of Sharon without appreciating her love and commitment to family, passion for Russian history, and love of reading. She could spot a "made in Occupied Japan" piece of china from a mile away. You couldn't win a game of Scrabble with her no matter how hard you tried. She was true to her roots, tradition, and ethics. She was a loyal friend who could always be counted on for anything.
Her relationship with each of her students was always important and meaningful throughout her entire career. She kept in touch with many students throughout the years in person, over the phone and through social media, and revelled in their accomplishments.
If someone needed advice, she shared her wisdom. If someone needed a place to go for the Jewish holidays, she made a space at her table.
Sharon loved her home in Winnipeg, where she surrounded herself with cherished and meaningful family artifacts. She loved her summers at the "caboose" at Winnipeg Beach where she read countless books, played endless games of Scrabble, schmoozed with her friends and family, could often be found at yard sales with her friends, or swimming in the lake or pool.
Whether you were blessed to call Sharon your mother, sister, relative, colleague, student, or friend, you will never forget her open, loving heart, her quick intelligence, her wisdom, and her passion for life.
May her memory be a blessing. She impacted and enriched the lives of so many and will be remembered with love by all she touched.

She was one of those teachers who you could tell loved to teach, and I think that looking back on it years later, her students would have to say that they loved being taught by her, even if they were unwilling to admit it at the time! - Posted by: Jeff K (Student) on: Jan 25, 2020

I offer my sincere condolences to all of Sharon's family. Sharon was a beautiful person who made the world a better place in which to live. Those of us who knew her are truly fortunate. She leaves us with many good memories, not only of her, but also of our own enjoyment of life when we were in her company. It was always a pleasure to be with Sharon. I am truly saddened that she has left us and am grateful for having known her. Donna Finkleman, Coquitlam, BC - Posted by: Donna Finkleman (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2019
