ISABEL (IZZY) EVANOCHKO
Isabel will be deeply missed by her children, Russ (Patsy), Susan and Kelly (Jeff), grandchildren, Jason (Alison), Kevin, Greg (Rae-Lynne) and Ryan as well as her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, Brock, Aaron, Katrina, August and Blake. She also leaves to mourn her brother Hugh (Wilma) and Bruce (Jean) McWhinney, brother-in-law Bob (Arrowsmith), sister-in-law Lily (McWhinney) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relative and friends. Know that she cared deeply and had a special place in her heart for all of you.
Isabel was predeceased by her husband Russell, daughter Pat (Krowchuk) and brothers, Bill, Bob and Glenn (McWhinney) as well as her sister Pat (Arrowsmith) with whom she had a special bond and missed terribly.
Family was everything to our mom. Growing up on Ross Avenue in Winnipeg, there were many stories told of the hijinks that occurred with her brothers and sister Pat. Her memory was solid as she vividly recalled stories of raiding vegetable gardens, the birthday party her sister threw for her or the pride she had in talking about brother Glenn's football career. She was lovingly loyal to each of them and soaked up the details of their lives together and wove them into a beautiful blanket of memories that she shared regularly.
Mom's work life always centered around people. In the early days she was a coat-check girl at the Manitoba Club, Supervisor at Kmart and finally found her passion as a home care worker. Mom believed she was put on this earth to help comfort people in their final years and she did so with a gentle grace and caring and lovingly brought each client in as family.
The loves of her life were her children and grandchildren. She was fiercely protective and deeply devoted to each of us and would never let anything get in the way of being there for us. She loved playing cards and there are many memories of Skip-Bo and cribbage games where there was always laughter and good times and always with the sparkle of mischief in her eyes. While there was no shortage of hard times throughout her life, Mom endured with a resilience and inner strength and kept looking forward with a belief of better times to come.
Mom's gift was in her ability to connect with people and form strong loving relationships. If you were part of her world, she made you feel like you were special and would always find time for that phone call or special time spent together. If she gave you that you were among the lucky because you got to feel her limitless love, warmth and commitment. She was a feisty, spirited, kind and gracious lady and will be deeply missed by many.
To honour her, a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Breezy Bend Country Club located at 7620 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg.

My heart hurts to see Izzys picture here, as I had no idea she had passed on. You mom was such a funny, strong and darn stubborn lady, lol who became a friend to us all. Her attention to recalling everyone’s names just showed her attentiveness to staff in all areas. Sincere condolences to all her wonderful family who were always at the home spending quality time with Izzy. God bless Xox - Posted by: Ellen Brown (Nurse at GWCL) on: Jan 11, 2020

Sympathies and warm memories from the Halayko's, old neighbours on Blake Street (my God, was it really more than 50 years ago)?? My Mum, Audrey, let us know about 'Auntie Isabel's' passing and we talked about our memories over Christmas (Steve,Andrew,Paul (Smoke) and Mandy). I remember she served me Kraft dinner with ketchup! But we all recall that great laugh, her passion for fun and what was right, and making the neighborhood somewhere we all played in happily. Our memories are all warm and good - we wish you the same blessing, that you celebrate your Mom's place in your lives, and in knowing that there is always a little bit of her in things you all do each day. - Posted by: Andrew Halayko (Old friends/neighbours) on: Dec 30, 2019

Sending my Deepest Sympathy for your loss of Izzy. Although I did not know her for very long, we became fast friends. I’ll never forget that hello / goodbye wave she and I would give one another, she’d show me her beautiful nail colours everyday! ♥️ I miss her beautiful presence at the lodge. Dear Russ, Susan, Kelly and your families, I would like to say that the obit composed for your mom is beautiful. The things that were said were perfectly fitting for our dear Auntie. As tough as her life was you all were affected too. I believe the apple did not fall far from the tree. You must carry the same heart and drive as your mom. Which says a lot. With the last years that your mom endured, I don't think she could have ask for better medicine in the company and encouragement you provided right until it was goodbye. Now that is love! May the memories of Auntie Isabel's smile and sweet spirit bring the same to us each day to come. Sad times. Our love and condolences are sent to you. Your cousin Jill and my husband Bill. I shall include the rest of the (Glenn and Lily) McWhinney family. xox - Posted by: Jill Palmer nee McWhinney (niece) on: Dec 21, 2019
