(PHILIP) FILKO KOZOKOWSKY
November 28, 1931 - Angusville, Manitoba
December 20, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta
Phil's life was a story of dedication to family and career with a desire to prevail above a humble beginning. Phil met Eunice at a teacher's college dance and they were together for 65 years. Phil's career began as a rural one-room school teacher in Manitoba and culminated in the principalship of Winnipeg Shaftesbury High School.
Retirement brought Phil and Eunice the joys of building a home together at Lake Winnipeg. Winters were spent in Weslaco, Texas. In 2006 Phil and Eunice moved to Calgary, AB and enjoyed wintering at their resort condo in Osoyoos, BC. He was a consummate gardener and loved to pick berries and mushrooms. His oil paintings and carvings grace their home.
Phil will be greatly missed by his wife Eunice (nee Schellenberg); four children, Karen (Geraldt) Gerrits, Pamela (Gordon) Brown, Gregory (Lisa) Kozokowsky, and Todd (Pamela) Kozokowsky; grandchildren, Michael (Heather), Lara (Westley), Christopher (Olivia), Kimberley, Crystal (Aaron), James (Jolene), Holly (Skyler), and Kyra; and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by an older sister Rose and a sister-in-law Geraldine, he leaves to mourn two younger siblings, Ann (Walter) Potolicki and Joseph Kozokowsky (Eileen Heap).
Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the funeral home.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Filko's obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
The family expresses deep appreciation to the team at Southwood Hospice who provided such loving care to Phil in his last months.

My sincere condolences on your loss. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." I am a respected researcher of Mennonite genealogy, and would like to connect your loved one to his/your family and ancestry, which I am unable to do given the information in his obituary. My on-line project contains over 500,000 individuals, including many Schellenbergs (my birth name), but neither it nor major sources show any identifiable link to your mother or her ancestry. Please contact me at an appropriate time if you are willing to share/exchange details. Thank you. All information about living individuals is suppressed to protect your/their privacy. I was a student at TSHS while Phil ("Mr. Kozokowsky" always) was principal. He ran a tight ship, though not without a touch of humour and more than a little humanity and earned the respect of his students (and, I am sure, his staff). At the 25th anniversary of the school in 1994, he brought the full house at the formal dinner at the Convention Centre to its feet following a moving speech about the school and his time there. His absence was marked at the 50th anniversary, last spring...he WAS Tuxedo Shaftesbury High School. He made a difference in the lives of many. I count myself among them. Very sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Tom Saunders (former student) on: Dec 28, 2019
