JOHN (JOHANN) TOEWS
May 1, 1933 - December 23, 2019
John was born on May 1, 1933, in Burwalde, MB and was raised in the outskirts and educated in a small school in the school district of Carruthers. He moved to Winnipeg where he married Ellen Kucharsky on July 26, 1958. After 34 years of marriage, Ellen passed away from cancer. John then moved to Belair, MB where he married Bonny Recksiedler. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2019.
John will be sadly and deeply missed by his loving wife, Bonny; daughter Jannet (Rudy); son Glen (Heather); stepdaughter Tammy (Kelly); stepson Kurt; stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Mary) and Albert (Hilda), plus numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
John was predeceased by his first wife Ellen, mother Susanne, stepmother Anna, father John, brother Peter, sister Kay, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
John was a loving father, brother, uncle, stepgrandfather, stepgreat-grandfather, and friend. He was very work orientated. John worked for Maple Leaf Construction and Central Canadian Structures. He then started his own steel erecting company, "JT Construction", which was involved in erecting huge pre-engineered steel buildings like grain feed mills, across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. Closing his business, he started a new home carpentry business on his own working in Winnipeg and the Grand Beach area, well into his late 70s.
John loved the peace and quiet of their residence in Belair, MB. His memory will be forever cherished in all our hearts.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at Green Acres Funeral Home, Transcanada Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. Interment and luncheon to follow.
Thanks to all the doctors and staff at Pine Falls Hospital for their care in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, should anyone wish to, they can make a donation to Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

Jannet, Glen and Bonny, I want to share a memory of Uncle John. Approximately twenty years ago Uncle John asked what he could make Ray and I as a house warming gift. I suggested a garden bench. Not only did he build a beautiful cedar bench, but also two matching chairs. We still have them on display in our yard and I think of him every day when I see them. Take care. - Posted by: Karen Toews (Niece) on: Jan 09, 2020
