GERTRUDE LOUISE SHAFFER
May 17, 1936 - December 25, 2019

Early Christmas morning with faith and the graciousness of God, at the Misericordia Health Centre, Trudy peacefully passed away.
Trudy, daughter of deceased Stan and Elsie Reid, is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles William Shaffer, her five children and their partners, Owen and Patti Shaffer, Todd and Karen Shaffer, Stewart and Rachelle Shaffer, Robert and Tanis Shaffer, Nora and Jason Wood, her 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrea, Megan, Heather, Bryn, Gage, Noelle, Tatum, Jack and Mark, as well as her brother Stanley and sister in-law Elsie Reid.
Early in her marriage Trudy travelled extensively in Canada and Europe as a military bride, with her children being born in three different provinces, and one in Germany. Trudy, up until her last days, was a ravenous reader and was a librarian on 17 Wing for many years. She had a passion for creative arts including making clothing for her children, later on jewelery, and many women will remember learning ceramics in the basement studio of her home where laughter and friendship was an important ingredient in anything made. Trudy was strong in faith and had a passion for gardening. She grew and canned vegetables to feed the troop of children and friends that surrounded her home and flowers were always present to provide colour.
Trudy was loved and will be missed. As was her wishes no formal services will be undertaken.
In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

  • I met Trudy in the Jewelry Art class. Then we went to the Rock of Ages club. We were members for years. We enjoyed polishing gem stones and set then in rings and pendants. Trudy was generous with her rocks. I had some of your collections. She and Chuck were the first to volunteer to our sales in the malls and other places. I will miss you Trudy. God Bless you. - Posted by: Clara Orallo (Friend) on: Dec 30, 2019
