(nee THIESSEN)

Celebrating her Life

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Erna Hildebrand, on December 30, 2019.
Erna will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by children, Terry (Janet), Sharon (Robin), Cindy (Doug) and Brad (Vicky), grandchildren, Kyla (Eli), Wesley (Mikyla), Kristen (Christian), Erica (Lucas), Tara (Jeff), Jennifer (Neal), Hailey, Brooke, and great-grandchildren, Calla, Jada, Noah, Bodie, Bennett, Cadence, Caleb, Zak, Sydney, Quinn, Brady and Walter.
Erna is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Hildebrand of British Columbia and Helen Hildebrand, brothers-in-law Henry Siemens and Abe (Rolly) Wiebe, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Erna was predeceased by her husband Jake in 2009, parents, Ben and Helen Thiessen, sisters, Helen, Sadie, Susan and Evelyn, brother Ed, and numerous in-laws.
Erna was born on March 23, 1931 in Lowe Farm, Manitoba. She was one of five girls and one brother in the Thiessen family. Erna married the love of her life, Jake Hildebrand on June 24, 1951. They were married for 58 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She ran her household like a tight ship. During the duration of her raising a family, she also enjoyed working part time at Sears, where she worked for 20 years. Erna retired from Sears in the late 1980s. She and Dad then spent the next 15 years in Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed spending their winter months. It is here where they enjoyed the company of many good times with family and newfound friends.
Mom took great pride in her family. Family was always #1. She had a love of sewing, cooking and baking. Her hands were always busy, if not for home, then for the church, the school or a community event of sorts. She was a kind, thoughtful devoted friend to many. She so enjoyed her time working at the MCC Thrift Shop, where she volunteered for many years.
Our family would like to extend our thanks to the Respiratory Ward on 2West at Riverview Health Centre, for their wonderful care in keeping Mom comfortable for the past three months. We prayed for the Lord to open His arms and to take our mother to heaven, no more pain, no more suffering. Our family feels blessed that she is now at peace!
Celebration of Life will be held at First Mennonite Church, 940 Notre Dame Ave. at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to a charity of one’s choice.
