RHEA BROOKS
July 29, 1941 - October 27, 2019
Cremation has taken place, and a service was held on November 23, 2019, in Burlington.
Rhea is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Walter, children, Lezlie, Scott, Derek and Barton, grandchildren, Caitlin Brooks-Sullivan and Kyle Brooks, sister Laurie Burke, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Stephen (Kirk), Judith Ann Pheby, Donna Andrews (Andy), and Aunt Marie Harvey (Charlie), numerous nieces and nephews.
Rhea was predeceased by grandparents, Erie May and Roy Harvey, parents, Percy and Violet Strong, many aunts and uncles; and her beloved childhood and lifelong friend, Hedy Kusch.
Rhea loved her grandchildren steadfastly, easily being their strongest supporter.
Rhea was the kindest of humans, befriending all who were lucky enough to meet her, her love expanding exponentially. She grew up in various cities and towns in Southern Ontario. She met Walter at a diner in Trenton by chance, Walter was in pilot training for the Air Force, and they married soon after. Walter promised to care for her until death should part them, and he fulfilled his vow for the rest of Rhea's life, with love and devotion.
Walter and Rhea moved to Manitoba, where they lived for many years in Westdale, raising their family. Rhea volunteered at Beaverlodge Elementary School, reading to children who loved her calm and loving presence.
We sincerely thank the medical staff in ICU at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, who cared for our mother over the last 11 months of her life. Derek and Barton devotedly visited her through this time, and she was comforted by their presence. Scott showed great love and courage towards Rhea at her passing.
We love you, Rhea. May you have peace.
