JAMES (JIM) OLIVER BASS
February 27, 1923 - December 24, 2019

Jim passed away peacefully at the Pinawa Hospital with his family by his side. We would like to thank Dr. Bruneau and the nurses/aides for caring for him.
He was born February 27, 1923, in Waterhen, Manitoba, the youngest of 12 children. Jim loved to sing and he taught himself to play guitar and harmonica at a young age. He left Waterhen to make his mark with music in Winnipeg and joined the E.J. Casey Shows which was a popular travelling carnival, as a harmony singer to Swede, one of the regular performers. He played many dances in and around Winnipeg including Patterson's Dance Barn. In the 1950's he began to play with different bands in hotels all over the city, as they had begun to offer live entertainment, the first being the St. Charles Hotel.
Jim worked at Burns Meats for 32 years until his retirement. He grew up hunting and trapping, he loved to be outdoors, whether it be on his snowmobile or his quad (which he rode until he was 92 years old). He loved his animals, his dogs and cats were always on his lap.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, William and Delia; and siblings, George, Frank, John, Lulu, Lillian, Bill, Chuck, Earl, Victor, Ray and Virden. He was the last of his generation.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Louise; his sons, Bruce (Susan) and Vernon; and daughters, Jewal (nee Valerie), Brenda (Ken), Arlene (Mike) and Alice (Graham); and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a family service will be held in the spring.
