KATHERINE CECILIA GLOWA
(nee LENCHUK)

Peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2019, Katherine Cecilia Glowa, passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 96.
Known by most as Cecilia, she was born in Gimli, Manitoba and grew up on the family farm west of town. In her late teens, Cecilia travelled to Toronto with her sisters to work for the war effort for a short time. She returned to Gimli and married John Glowa on August 19, 1944. Together they relocated to the West Coast and after a short stay in Victoria, they returned to Winnipeg. Cecilia worked for Safeway until they started their family. Eventually they settled in St. James where they raised their six children. In her 50s, she returned to the work force, working part-time at the United Cigar Store at Polo Park.
Cecilia and John were founding parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle Church and they dedicated much of their time volunteering. Cecilia enjoyed knitting, crocheting and learning to quilt with the Ladies Group at the church and was a long-time member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL).
Family dinners and holidays were very special to Cecilia. She made the best perogies which were always on the dinner table for the whole family to enjoy.
Cecilia is survived by her husband of 75 years, John and her children, Janet Kulferst (Randy), Brian Glowa (Karen), Dennis Glowa (Leslie), Susan Irvine (Jeff), Carolyn McNeil (Dave) and Lorie Glowa, along with 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Many thanks to Sturgeon Creek II and the home care staff that allowed her to remain in the community with her husband until recent months. Also, special thanks for all the wonderful care she received from the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Towers six and four.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Eric Giddins presiding. A lunch will be served after the service in the parish hall.
