It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Lysander (Sonny) Sarmiento on January 4, 2020, at the age of 57.
The first born of six children, Sonny leaves behind his wife Jisselle Buan; daughters, Rebeka and Ali; son Kyle; siblings, Lingkod Jr. (Ivy), Leni, Lydia (Arthur) Gloria and Leah (Ferd) Loria; nephews and nieces, Melissa, Julian, Kalvin, Ainsleigh, Yasmin, Alyshia, Aidan, Karson, Anabel and Isabel; as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Lingkod Sr. and Luz Sarmiento, and sister Lena Sayuno.
Sonny deeply loved his wife, daughters, son and his entire family. He was a very loyal and devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, friend and colleague. Family gatherings were very important to him, enjoying togetherness, fun and laughter. He was incredibly generous and kind-hearted. An intelligent man, a profound thinker with a great love for reading, which enabled him to earn a degree in Theology (University of Santo Tomas, Philippines) and Philosophy (University of Winnipeg), as well as graduating with honours at Red River College completing an Advanced Diploma in Infrastructure Technology. As an IT, he was a successful, valuable and well-respected employee of Symcor for many years until the day of passing.
Sonny was blessed with many gifts and talents. Martial arts were his passion, as he obtained his black belt in Aikido. Sonny valued simplicity in all aspects of life, remaining humble and made certain that he stayed behind the limelight.
He was loved more than words can say. A tremendous blessing in the lives of many and he will be deeply missed. We are comforted knowing that he will be with our loving heavenly father, now and forever. His life has changed, not ended.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Living Hope located at 235 Enniskillen Avenue. Cremation and private interment will be held at a later date with family in care of Glen Eden Funeral Home.
In honour and memory of Lysander Sarmiento, contributions may be made to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.
