Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Thom some time in the early eighties I'd say. I can't say exactly when but it was in the Spherical Arts community for sure. He had some life experiences in the game and still played well so I had to be near to hear his version of what he'd witnessed and it was often shared with great humour. Humour, aside from snooker, was a key attribute of his and many of the people he was surrounded by. I enjoyed his company and am sorry to hear of his passing. Pool rooms have had a bad reputation over the years, with good reason perhaps. Thommy on the other hand was one of the good ones! His star will always shine bright from my perspective. - Posted by: Ron Graham (Friend ) on: Aug 12, 2022

  • I first met Thom in the early 80's at the Crystal Palace Snooker Lounge when it was located on Kennedy near Portage Ave. I used to watch him shoot and man could he play. He would make ball after ball and made the game look too easy and was very charismatic to watch. I also watched him win The Manitoba Championship on a few occasions. I got to know him over the years and we became teammates in the Active Pool league and travelled to Las Vegas together. Thommy had a great sense of humor and was a good guy to be around. I'm going to miss Thom and am sorry I didn't get the chance to see him again since he left for B.C. RIP Thom - Posted by: Darcy Michael Ratte (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2020

  • In the early 80's I was an 18 year old kid who got 'hooked' on the game of snooker. Someone told me if I wanted be any good I have to start playing at the downtown pool halls, cause that's where all the top players play. So it was at the old Crystal Palace where I met Thommy Sansom, one of the best players in the province at the time. We went on to become good friends and had a lifetime of fun in the 80's, playing snooker everyday, watching and talking sports, and hitting the bars to see a good Rock band (almost every night lol). Thommy helped me with my game and was always fun to hang with. When he was at his best on the table he could play with anyone in the country. He once lost 6-5 to Kirk Stevens in the old Central Canadians, back then one of the best tournaments in Canada. And Kirk, along with Cliff Thorburn are the 2 best snooker players this country has ever produced. How's that for a measuring point. Thommy was well known in Canadian snooker, had a ton of friends, and was well liked by all. It was a pleasure to call him my friend. I'll always remember Thommy and the great fun we had, on and off the table. Enjoy the great snooker table in the sky bud!! - Posted by: Donnie Chomiski (Old pool hall buddy) on: Feb 01, 2020

  • My brother always had a passion for sports, all kinds of sports. He came by it hereditarily from both mom and dad. He even came in first with Sportsnet Fantasy pool which is quite a feat. I miss you Thom. Will love you always! - Posted by: Jan Wiens (Sister) on: Jan 11, 2020
