KATHRYN ANN HARVEY

It is with heavy and broken hearts we announce the passing of Kathryn Ann Harvey (Thorsell) on January 6, 2020, at home surrounded by family.
Kate leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Clint; daughters, Georgia, Britt (Ryan); and son Nolan (Rinrada); as well as her parents, Don and Margaret Thorsell; and sisters, Linda Thorsell (Doug), Elaine Thorsell and Diane Thorsell; in-laws, Doug Harvey (Jan) and Janie Gardner (Bud); as well as many other friends and admirers of her simple elegance and grace.
Among the many traits she passed down to her children: her gift for laughter, joy, a good joke and love of life. She was a devoted and much beloved mother, gardener, sage advice-giver, artist and chef who could whip up a brilliant school project out of a few scraps of paint and Styrofoam. She embodied the expression 'still waters run deep' and had the patience of a saint (truly). Kate loved the outdoors and being active: kayaking, cross-country skiing, walking on the frozen Red River and being at the gym with her 'girls'. Her beauty was matched by her incredible inner strength and courage, exemplified by how she handled a difficult illness.
We will miss her beyond what will feel humanly possible and she will live within us and around us forever. We take solace only in knowing she is not suffering and trust she was met with the embrace of her dear friend Wendy. We wish her peace and a safe journey.
We would like to thank the many kind and patient caregivers, doctors, nurses, social workers and other health professionals who made a heavy burden lighter. Special thanks to the palliative care team and those who dedicate their time for caring for others. There will be no funeral at Kate's request.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunshine Fund or a charity of your choice.
For those who share in our loss and wish to pay their respects, we ask that you make a toast to Kate with one another, preferably with your finest glass of red. Cheers to a truly incredible woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Thank you, Kate, for sharing your light with us ... until we meet again.

To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.

  • CLINT Diane and I are completely devastated by the passing of Kate . She was one of our favourite friends. It was always such a great day when we would get together for dinner or have you both out to our cabin at Falcon Lake. When Kate found something funny, she would often laugh for a long time making everyone else laugh too. Kate was a remarkable athlete. She was a great cross country skier and a fantastic cyclist. We will always miss her! - Posted by: Kenneth Sommerfield (FRIENDS) on: Feb 15, 2020

  • I am so sorry to see this in the paper. I have not seen Kathy/Clint for many years and can’t believe what I am reading. I met Kathy in grade school. We ran track and cross country together and had many good times. Clint was our coach. She enjoyed sports and was excellent at all and a fierce competitor. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Brenda Michel (Old school friends ) on: Jan 26, 2020

  • So sorry for your loss of a truly unique person. Kate (Kathy) introduced herself to me when we started working for Jostens - almost 40 years ago. She was a live wire that always had a great time at work. We became friends and watched each other get married and have our first sons - (my son Cyr and her son Nolan) together. We lost touch as life became busy. Her friendliness and beautiful smile was shared by many, and now her soul and spirit will enrich others in her next adventure. • I am lost for words at the news of Kathy's passing. I remember her as a beautiful strong incredible person. We ran cross country together and she was a star in every sense. We had the most fun in the change rooms laughing and joking. She took me under her wing and included me as I was only in grade 7 she in 9 and I looked up to her. Its was so exciting when she married Clint. As everyone knows they were made for each other and there will never be another couple like them. Mr. Harvey (Clint) I say with love was always there for our family at our times of loss and as a young person I knew I could always reach out to him. At our last family event when he showed up to support yet another and another time for our family while going through heart wrenching times himself. I will never forget Kathy your beautiful magnetic wife and your generosity. I have you and your family in my heart and prayers. - Posted by: Sandy Wagar (Portz) (Old Friend) on: Jan 15, 2020

  • I love you. Perhaps I should be grateful for having you as a mother, confidante, best friend and loyal supporter... But I find it impossible to be grateful for anything with you gone. I suppose I carry on, with your words and love to guide me. To where? I'll forever search to find simple joy and laughter as you did so gracefully. Until we meet again, my dearest Mommy.
