DAVID PAUL PENNER

David sadly passed away on January 7, 2020, at the age of 61.
He will be dearly missed by his wife and lifelong partner of 43 years, Marion, and his two children, Matthew (Kelly) and Zoe (Calvin). He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Gladys, and is survived by his brother Lawrence.
David was a charismatic, humble, and thoughtful man who approached everything he did whole-heartedly. His favourite place was the family cottage at Victoria Beach where he spent many summers exploring the boreal forest, admiring wildlife, and cycling through trails with his family and dogs. He loved playing card games, reading in the screen room, late-night bike rides to the pier and evenings around the bonfire. At home, David enjoyed quiet evenings with his family and watching Jets games from the comfort of his living room. He was a committed father who was always interested in whatever his children were taking on, ensuring they approached their goals with passion.
David was a man of vision. His out-of-the-box ideas, spirit of volunteerism, mentorship, and vision for revitalizing Winnipeg continue to inspire those who spent time with him to make a difference. He was an outspoken advocate for urban design and knew that beautiful places meant a beautiful life. In 1993, he founded David Penner Architect out of his distinctive pyramid-shaped office. David was involved with the Prairie Design Awards and the MAA for many years. He was a founder of Storefront MB, where he was a driving force behind Cool Gardens, Bar Nano, and Table for 1200. His legacy of work will stand as a monument to his creativity and love for Winnipeg.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring to honour and raise a glass to David.
Storefront MB was David's passion, always celebrating the value of community, art and design. In memory of David, gifts can be donated to the David Penner Endowment Fund with Storefront MB directly at storefrontmb.ca
