ELISABETH ERIKA KOTTKE
(nee LISKOW)
May 15, 1922 - January 1, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elisabeth, our beloved mother, oma and great-oma, who peacefully passed away at the age of 97.
She was predeceased by our father Helmut in 2008. Mourned by daughters. Barbara and Margret (Brian), and cherished grandkids, Kevin (Tanya), Kim (Kyle), Michelle (Scott), Lisa (Dan), Wendy (Wojtek) and Karen (Kevin); great-grandkids, Mike (Tamara), Matt, Amelia, Cora, Sam, Aliya, Elijah, Ashton, Mira, Emma, Abigail, Joshua, Owen, Benjamin, by caring friends and family in Germany, and special friend Anni.
Mom was born in Pommern, Germany in 1922, the youngest of three sisters. Married in 1946, Dad came to Canada in 1952 with Mom following a year later. They settled in Winnipeg in St. Vital. Love of weekend travel to lakes and beaches led to buying land and building a cottage on the Winnipeg River, beside their dear friends. Weekends were then spent at the lake, and so it was natural for them to retire to their cottage in Kenora. They became active members of the German Club, making many long-lasting friends.
Mom was a warm and caring person with a very kind heart. She had a gift for making friendships and making everyone feel special. Mom had a positive and encouraging nature and will always be remembered for her generous smiles and easy, contagious laughter. She was loved by all who knew her.
Mom and her grandkids shared a special relationship. She was a great cook and baker, winning the hearts of all her grandkids with her many hugs, German butter and Apfel kuchen, donuts and beavertails. She enjoyed a huge vegetable and amazing flower garden both in Winnipeg and Kenora. We all admired her green thumb. Feeding the hummingbirds was a highlight in the summer. Mom was very creative and enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlepoint, as well as a variety of crafts.
Mom and Dad often travelled to Germany to visit family, and she was happy to have her sisters visit here. Cuba was a favourite winter destination.
Special thanks to Donwood Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
Mom wished to be cremated. (Voyage Funeral Home). Interment and Celebration of Life will take place this summer.
In Mom's memory, a donation may be made to Donwood Personal Care Home.
