EDWARD LOEWEN
Over a span of almost 60 years, Ed worked in the construction industry in the three prairie provinces. He supervised the construction of homes, churches, hotels, apartments, barns and overpasses. During that time he also started several small businesses that built kitchen cabinets and custom homes. He loved to build things. After his retirement he volunteered to supervise the renovation of a number of churches in Winnipeg and several buildings at a Christian university in Lithuania and was always available to help family and friends with their projects.
Ed was well known for his love of horses. Over the years he owned, rode and pulled sleighs with many horses, including his most beloved equine companion, Beauty. He organized many trail rides in the Rocky Mountains when he lived in Alberta. In Winnipeg he could be found with Beauty down at The Forks, visiting retirement residences or trail riding in Birds Hill Park, where he never tired of brightening someone's day with a little horse time. Having both knees and one hip replaced did not slow him down for long and he continued to ride Beauty into his early 80s.
Ed is survived by his wife Katerina; daughters, Jackie (Leo) Brassard and Michelle (Rob) Wall; sons, Gerry (Irene), Bob (Joyce) and Mark (Cheryl); grandchildren, Shannon, David, Daniel, Jennifer, Caroline, Laura, Mark, Brooke, Alex, Jake, Vanessa, Camille and Nicole; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Ed was raised in the Mennonite Brethren Church and faith in God was central to his life. He will be missed by his family and many friends, and always remembered as an energetic, friendly, kind and loving man.
A memorial service celebrating Ed's life will be held at Klassen Funeral Home on Friday, January 17, 2020, at 2:00 p.m.
