• I was so sad to hear of Al's passing. He and Heather were great friends dating back to the 70's when Heather and I worked together at the Fireplace Restaurant on Pembina Hwy. Before there was a Winnipeg Sun, I was a fan of Al's intellect and devotion to his family. We raised our families together and when he asked me to come and work with him at the Sun, I jumped at the chance to join forces with such a determined and visionary person. He changed the City of Winnipeg for the better and expected nothing in return. He was instrumental in making the careers and lives of many people better, not just old Trib employees but everyone who came in contact with him. He was a special man. • Working for and with Al at the Winnipeg Sun in the early years was a wonderful experience. His determination to make the Winnipeg Sun a statement was profound. Taking chances on all new staff, working overtime, yet always a kind word, motivated us all .
