MARGARET LOUISE HICKS
(COCKRIEL)
October 10, 1927 - January 14, 2020

It is with thankfulness of a life well lived that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margaret Hicks.
It's with great love and sadness that we say goodbye to a loving mom, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 92.
Mom lost the love of her life, Doug, on June 12, 2019 after 70 plus years of marriage, and that loss was very hard on Mom.
Those left to remember Mom are her daughters, Corinne Larsen, Lorraine (Craig) Walton and Heather (John) Titley. Grandsons are Leif (Jennefer) Larsen, Aaron Larsen, Reid (Jill) Walton, Neil (Nicole) Walton, Bradley (Pam) Titley, Scott (Brooke) Titley, and seven great-grandchildren.
Marg was predeceased by all of her siblings - Gordon Cockriel (British Columbia), Minnie Mitchell (Alberta) and Shirley Wright (Alberta).
Mom spent many hours sewing, knitting, bowling, cooking and baking. After Mom's youngest daughter, Heather, started school in 1965 Mom took up curling and enjoyed the sport until her 80th year.
Mom was very involved with the Transcona United Church Women (UCW) since moving to Transcona in 1956. Mom was most proud that she achieved her Life Member with UCW. During her involvement with UCW Mom made many lifelong friends.
The Transcona Memorial United Church was a large part of Mom's life. Mom found strength and friendship in her church community.
In 1958 Dad and Mom built the family cottage in South Beach, Gimli and Mom continued enjoying going each and every weekend, during the beach season, to their "piece of heaven". Mom and Dad made many lifelong friends in South Beach.
Our parents enjoyed many wonderful winter holidays in Florida.
The family extends sincere appreciation to Middlechurch Personal Care Home staff for their kindness, compassion and professionalism with Mom. Mom was only a residence of Middlechurch for three short weeks, but the care and dignity Mom received during her short stay was above and beyond.
Prior to relocating to Middlechurch our parents were residents of Devonshire House II. We would like to "Thank" the staff at Devonshire House II and the home care staff for all their support and care that they provided Mom with these last seven months.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the many years Dr. Caners cared for both Doug and Marg.
In accordance with Mom's wishes, a private family gathering will take place at a later date.
Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Marg's memory to the Transcona Memorial United Church - Building Fund, 209 Yale Avenue West, Winnipeg, MB R2C 1T9.

Until we meet again -
We love you Mom and Dad.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • South Beach has lost yet another long time summer resident. Mrs. Hicks was my 2nd beach Mom. She made the best bologna sandwiches for Lorraine and I when we decided we would go on an adventure to have a picnic. Heaven has just gained another Angel to join the rest of the South Beach Angels previously lost! - Posted by: Val Verity (Family Friend) on: Jan 19, 2020

  • Dear Corinne & family, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Bob & I send our sincere condolences to all. I have great memories of both your Mom & Dad from childhood & more recently, my visits with them when they dropped by WPCU. It was always a pleasure to chat with them & I can so clearly picture your Mom's beautiful smile. May your memories be of great comfort to you now & always. Sincerely, Bob & Sheryl Bryan - Posted by: Sheryl Bryan (Friend) on: Jan 18, 2020
