Mom peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at the age of 89 years.
She leaves behind her children, Brenda (Brent) Lord, Joanne Wasylishen, Andrew (Julie) Wasson; and grandchildren, Jason, Carrie, and Heather. Also mourning her loss are her sisters, Anne Garlinski, Helen Sereda, Mary Morin, Liz (Mike) Martyniuk and brother Wally Garlinski.
Frances was predeceased by her husband Tony; parents, William and Bessie Garlinski; sister Victoria; and brothers, Mike, Stan, and Ron.
Mom was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba on January 28, 1930. She was the second oldest of ten children and life on the family farm instilled in her a strong work ethic and the ability to take on numerous tasks. She would often say "If you want something done, ask a busy person." As children, we remember there were always workbooks on hand to improve spelling and arithmetic or a chore to do that most often involved some form of tidying up. She enjoyed sharing these activities with her grandchildren as well. Mom was a great cook and organizer who enjoyed having people over for meals, and no crowd was too large. She made delicious preservatives and was skilled in the art of sewing and knitting. In our house it was not uncommon to see colour samples taped to a wall. For mom there never seemed to be a bad time to start a painting project to give a little boost to the look of a room.
Mom attended hairdressing school in 1950 in Winnipeg and in the early years worked as a hairdresser. She married Tony on October 3, 1953, and together they raised three children. Mom worked part-time at Eaton's for about 20 years and after retiring returned to hairdressing once a week at an assisted living facility. Over the years, she was an active member of her church and you could find her volunteering in the kitchen. We could always depend on mom's help whenever needed. Mom you were always there for us, we love you and will miss you.
Cremation has taken place with a private family gathering to be held at a later date.

  • I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. My thoughts and prayers to the family. I knew Mrs. W during my teen years through her daughter Joanne. Mrs. W. always made be feel welcomed when in her home. Mrs. W. was a great cook. One fond memory was during a visit Mrs. W was preparing homemade chicken noodle soup. I recall her giving me tips on how to prepare a good soup. Although I was a teen at the time, those tips are used to this day when I prepare chicken noodle soup for my family. Rest in Peace Mrs. W. - Posted by: Shawn Armitage (Friend) on: Jan 21, 2020

  • I will truly miss Frances. I met Frances when she lived at McClure Place. I was the meal coordinator and needed a helping hand in the kitchen. Along comes Frances, "Don't worry I'm here , I will take care of the kitchen duties". And she did for years. We would spend time talking and if I don't know how to cook something she told me how to prepare the meal. I'm blessed to have know this wonderful lady. RIP Frances you will be missed. - Posted by: Bev (Friend) on: Jan 21, 2020
