It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather (Afi) and great-grandfather, (Launga Afi) Norman Gudmundur Nordal after a long battle with kidney disease on January 16, 2020, in the Grey Nunn's Hospital in Edmonton Alberta.
Norman was born April, 1933 to Sigurlaug and Bjarni Nordal in Lundar, Manitoba. He married Elinora Vestmann in 1959, they celebrated their 60th anniversary in October, 2019.
Norman is survivied by his wife, three children, nine grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Marino Nordal, and his son-in-law Rodrick Wilson.
Norman was raised on a farm in Lundar, Manitoba, and had fond memories of his childhood all his life. As a young man he moved to Winnipeg and worked as a meat cutter. In retirement he and his wife moved to Alberta to be closer to family. Norman was proud of his Icelandic heritage and was a member of the Scandinavian center in both Winnipeg and Edmonton. In 2000, he and his wife fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Iceland for a year to immerse themselves in the culture. Norman enjoyed wood and leather work and music, but most of all he enjoyed having a cup of coffee and talking to friends and family. He was a quiet and selfless man and could be counted on to be true to his word. He will be remembered with honour and respect.
A funeral service will be held in Arborg, Manitoba at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, 310 River Rd., Arborg, on January 24, 2020, at 1:00 pm.
