Eric Proppe, beloved husband of Elsie Proppe (nee Kessler); beloved father of Cheryl, Kimberley, Troy and Marisa, of Calgary, Alberta; passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the age of 83 years.
He was the second son of three for Elizabeth (nee Schoenrath) and Ewald Proppe, and was born on a homestead near Minitonas, Manitoba. Eric was valedictorian of his high school class in Bowsman, Manitoba, and went on to study architecture at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. After obtaining his degree, Eric moved to Calgary, Alberta, with his new bride, Beverley Joan (nee MacKay), where he practiced architecture for over thirty years. While Eric designed and built many commercial and residential buildings throughout southern Alberta, he was an entrepreneur with interests that included hotel ownership, real estate development and ranching. He had a passion for many sports and was a long-time member at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club. Eric always had a deep faith in his God and a strong commitment to his church. He was a generous man with both time and resources.
Eric is survived by his children, Cheryl Proppe, Kimberley (Brent) Lemay, Troy (Corinne) Proppe and Marisa (Thomas) Styles; his grandchildren, Jenna (Gilbert) MacWhirter, Drew (Stephanie Hanes) Bakgaard, Evan, Riley and Connor Lemay, Sydney (Mitchell) Sawatsky, Devon Proppe, MacKenzie, Nicholas and Regan Styles; and his great-grandchildren James and Anastasia MacWhirter, Marek Hanes-Bakgaard and Jayce Zaba. He is also survived by his wife Elsie; her sons, Steven (Jerusha), Derek (Heeran) Schoenhoff and their families; his brother Harold (Eleanor) Proppe; as well as nieces; nephews; and many friends. He is predeceased by his mother and father; his first wife and mother of his children Beverley MacKay; his brother Irvin Proppe; and his nephew Glen Jersak.
Funeral services will be held at Brentview Baptist Church, 3512 Charleswood Drive N.W., Calgary, AB, on Friday, January 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
