THE REVEREND RAYMOND CARSON MCMURRAY
Raymond is survived by his three daughters, Brenda (Jon), Wendy (Charles) and Laura, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren one great-great-grand-daughter, and his brother Mel. He was predeceased, in 2013, by his wife Florence to whom he was married for 66 years, a sister, four brothers and a grandson.
Born and educated in Winnipeg, Raymond in his youth was active in all sports and the Boys Club - serving as Best Boy on one occasion. He served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War on a mine sweeper. His ship, the HMCS Clayoquot was torpedoed on Christmas Eve, 1944. Lives were lost and the survivors, clinging to lifeboats, sang Christmas carols to keep up their spirits.
Following the war, Raymond worked at Sherwin-Williams Paint Company where he met Florence. He then was employed by the RCMP in the Financial Services Section.
In 1971 Raymond was ordained a priest in the Anglican Church. He was Chaplain for the RCMP Veteran's Association from 1984 to 2006 and served as the Chaplain for the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp Qu'appelle. Raymond held many postings as Rector or Assistant to the Rector at St. Albans, St. Patrick and St. Jude's and St. Saviours to name a few.
Ray loved life, music, dancing, food and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was devoted to his wife, family and his faith. The family would like to thank Ted and Sandy for the support they provided Ray. Thanks to the caregivers including Carrie, Meaghan, Kristina, Margaret, Abdo and Lindly. Thanks to the Reverend Edmund Laldin and the congregation of St. Saviours for their visits and prayers.
A Celebration of Ray's remarkable life and accomplishments will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at St. Saviours Anglican Church (690 Monroe Avenue), commencing at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CE501-840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 or a charity of your choice.
