CATHERINE B. MCCOMBER
Catherine was born and raised in Port Arthur, Ontario by Agnes and John Hendry. She was the eldest of four, including Thelma, Janet and Gussie. Catherine was predeceased by her husband Don and her daughter Susan.
Left to mourn her are her sons, David (Maria), Dana (Brenda) and her daughter Jennifer (Mike). Also missing her are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in Winnipeg, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose Bay and St. John's. Many nieces and nephews enjoyed Aunt Catherine's company, including Marg, Jan, Liz and Cynthia.
Our special thanks to her special angels, Maria and Sandra for being there for her and to help Dee.
Catherine was a 70 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as a past Matron, (1978/1979 and 1999/2000) and she enjoyed the sisterhood and friendship of many. She was a treasured secretary to the 2nd Canadian Guards in Petawawa before taking on clerical responsibilities at the Manitoba Provincial Laboratory in Winnipeg from 1966 until retirement in 1992. In 1998, her husband and our father Don suffered a severe medical setback, and Mom was his primary caregiver for many years until his death in 2009. She was a wonderful caregiver and would have made a wonderful nurse as is the tradition amongst her beloved sisters and her Aunt Betty, R.N.s all.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua and many of the caregivers at Grace Hospital for their kindness, compassion and care during her illness.
At her request, there will be no formal ceremony. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
