MAX DUCHON
Max was predeceased by his loving wife, Norma, his daughter, Cindy, and his grandson, Adam. Max will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Leslie (Hanania) Assor and Susan (Richard) Golden, son-in-law Mark Pasternak, his grandchildren, Sean, Josh, Ashleigh, Summer, Jenna and Faith.
Funeral services were held at the Etz Chayim Synagogue with interment at Rosh Pina Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sean Assor, Hanania Assor, Richard Golden, Mark Pasternak, Ira Kaye and David Greenberg.
Max was born and raised in the north end of Winnipeg. He served as a wireless operator in the Navy during the Second World War and subsequently was called away from his architecture studies at the University of Manitoba to join his brother, Jack, in the family sign business. A leader in the Canadian sign manufacturing industry, Max ran Duchon Neon Plastic Ltd. until his retirement.
Max and Norma married in 1948 and spent the next 65 years working together, as well as celebrating life with family and their wide circle of friends. Max's greatest joy was spending time with his seven grandchildren. He was known for his giant personality and loved entertaining everyone by telling a funny story and making people laugh. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, bowling, curling, bridge and gin rummy. Max had a strong appreciation for the arts and would often spend hours listening and singing along to his opera, classical and Latin American recordings. Max took every opportunity to travel the world - often speaking fondly of his adventures.
Max was a special man whose presence was felt by all. Our fond memories will continue to bring smiles and laughter to those who knew and loved him.

One of the greatest jobs I ever had. I started as a general labor, and became a tin Smith and Sign maker under the direction of Mr Bill Cornell. I new Mr Duchon well I was always ask to wash he's vehicle's and he would all ask me how I was doing and he meant it. I learnt a great deal from him. In 1983, John Brown, Rene Huot and me, Doug Mazur were involved in a advertising concept that was going make us lots of money! Not knowing about the sign business, we had the good fortune of meeting Max and presenting our idea. Max pointed out that our expectations were too high but he still became a partner and was an integral part of seeing Macro Media up and running. Max helped organize financing, providing us with office space in his Church Avenue building, sourcing and installing our new “money making” idea. Max was a great cheerleader when we were having our down times. He would remind us that not everything goes to according to plan. Adapt and move on. One of my favourite memories of Max is when we would have a partners meeting and John or I would talk of some issues with the bank or government or clients, Max would ask questions, provide some feedback and end with “that guy is such a Putz“ or “what a Schmuck”. Then we would be told we could not use those words. He had great humour which I learned when we went to Los Angeles and then Las Vegas. Max referred to Las Vegas as “sign man’s heaven”. Max had great generosity of spirit. He was a man who made a difference in the lives of many people. He will be missed. - Posted by: Douglas Mazur (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2020

My condolences to all the family. I enjoyed working for your father, grandfather. He and Norma were fantastic bosses and always welcomed me into their home, life and family. Both had taught me a great deal in the industry and accounting. I enjoyed his humor and some stories he did tell us in his spare time. Deepest sympathies to all - Posted by: Diane (Hudak) Wervin (a very good friend and employee to Max and family) on: Feb 08, 2020
