Tom was born October 14, 1934 in Winnipeg to Henry Young (from Scotland) and Kathleen Young (nee Mullan, from Winnipeg). He grew up in Weston where he attended Cecil Rhodes School. In his early years, Tom worked as a steam engine fireman for Canadian Pacific Railway. He went on to work for 30 years for the Manitoba Liquor Commission where he later became a store manager.
Tom will be remembered for his love and caring of family and friends, his big hugs and wide smile, his bold and loving personality, his ability to looking at life with the glass half full, and for listening to good old country music before country music was cool.
Dad's priority was his family and was happiest when spending time with them. Whether it was talking with his grandchildren about their latest adventures; or the trips he and Arline took to Palms Springs to visit with his siblings in their retirement years; or going to the beef draw at the legion with special friends John, Orysia, Mel and Joan with whom he also curled with for many years at the Granite and Highlander Curling Clubs...he cherished it all.
In accordance with Tom's final wishes, he donated his body to the University of Manitoba's College of Medicine.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Gunson, Dr. Springman, Dr. Tam, and the wonderful staff on 4B Family Medicine Ward St. Boniface Hospital for their guidance and care.
A memorial service for both Arline and Tom will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
