FLORENCE HOLIGROSKI
She was predeceased by her husband Casmir Holigroski in 2000.
Left to remember her fondly are daughter Heather (Richard) Witherden; grandsons, Avery, Stuart and Harris, and her son Craig (Michelle) Holigroski. A large extended family and many friends will miss her company and warmth. In her 40 years married to Casmir, the eldest of the Holigroski clan, she held a guiding role for her younger sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as their families.
Mom enjoyed a long career with CIBC, eventually becoming the first woman to receive a pension that included her part-time work: her diligence paid off and paved the way for others. At work and at home Mom espoused dignity and respect for all, regardless of their station or background. She knew everyone had a story, and she gave everyone the benefit of being heard.
During our childhood, Mom and Dad took us on adventures: from driving to BC, to camping at Blue Lake and winding our way to Bonita Springs, Florida, our family stories were as colourful as our 1970s living room wallpaper. She took up writing after her retirement, and made her voice stronger as she grew into an independent life after widowhood.
Standing in her shoes will be an honour, as she valued service and caring: she was a trusted volunteer, most recently with the I.O.D.E. Florence loved to sew and was incredibly generous with her talents. She made Ukrainian dance costumes and clothes for us, as long as we'd wear them. Her recent projects included many baby blankets; having grandchildren really gave her a new energy. She was so pleased to take her grandsons to Icelandic events and teach them about their heritage. As Education was seen by mom as a passageway to a better life, we have established a scholarship in her name and will accept donations at CIBC Account 01907 010 5652995. Mom believed in giving a hand up to those in need.
We invite friends and family to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 15, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for FAMILY and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for FRIENDS at 400 Osborne Street. Space is limited. Please contact us for further details FloHCelebration@gmail.com
May her memory be a blessing.

She was the most impactful grandparent on my life, not least of which due to distance. She was an impressive woman, and imparted much of her Icelandic culture on myself and brothers. A real product of the Interlake and a great person. - Posted by: Stuart Witherden (Grandson) on: Apr 15, 2022

It is with such sadness to hear of your passing on Tues. I will treasure our years of friendship that started out in Lundar with our Amma's & Afi's living next to each other on 1st Street. We used to play together every time I went to Lundar to visit my grandparents. We would have been about 4 or 5...On weekends you would come out to the farm of my parents to visit. We had a lot of fun in our years. High school, double dating the local boys, trips by car, cruises, sharing stories. Rest in peace my friend. Condolences to your family.. - Posted by: Lil Walraven & Ron (Friend of 75 years) on: Feb 08, 2020
