RITA ALICE CHARTRAND
January 26, 1931 - February 1, 2020
Rita was predeceased by her husband Tom; son Thomas; parents Wilfred and Bertha; siblings Allan, Larry and Elaine.
She is survived by her sister Edna; brother Neill; and her children, Glenn, Barbara, Robert and Sharon (Kerry); grandchildren, Shane, Christal (Chris), Dean, Thomas, Michael, Dennis (Charlene), Nicholas and Stefanie; great-grandson Cason; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and extended family members.
Rita was born and raised in Deerhorn, MB, and later moved to Oak Point where she met and married William (Tom) Chartrand. She loved the country life, gardening, sewing and socializing with family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and travelling with MB 55 Plus Teams, especially the trip to PEI where she visited Anne of Green Gables House. Rita also travelled numerous times to the west coast to visit her sons, Thomas and Bob, and brother Neill. In 2015 she flew to Nanaimo, BC, to attend her grandson Dennis and Charlene's wedding.
Rita was an active member of the St. Olaf's Roman Catholic Church in Lundar and the Lundar Legion Ladies Auxilliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking, etc., for church and legion functions. She acquired her driver's license at the age of 62 years which enabled her to take dad to appointments, do shopping and deliver Meals On Wheels.
At her request, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Lundar Legion Hall with Father Paul Tinguely officiating. Service will conclude at the hall and a lunch will be served by the Ladies Auxilliary following the service. A family interment will be held at a later date in the Notre Dame Cemetery, Oak Point, MB.
Thank you to the Stonewall Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home staff and nurses for their wonderful care, compassion and understanding they provided to mom during her time with them.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5.
