ROBERT WESLEY ROGERS
Peacefully, with his family at his side, Dad passed away at the Heath Sciences Centre on February 12, 2020.
He leaves to mourn his daughters, Darcie Yale (Robert) and Erin Alexander (James); brother James (Carolea); grandchildren, Matthew, Victoria, Tyler and Benjamin, and former spouse Judy, as well as Patricia's daughter Heidi Hubbard. He was predeceased by Patricia and his parents, Edward "Palmer" and Daisy.
Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg. He graduated from St. James Collegiate. Following in his father's footsteps, he joined Air Canada, becoming a Certified Avionics Engineer. Dad worked in Winnipeg, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. He took pride in his career and was a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge on all matters of avionics. Dad also loved music, listening to artists including the Irish Rovers, Rod Stewart and "real" Country music. Though quiet, Dad also loved to make people laugh. He was constantly thinking up ways to lighten the mood; playing practical jokes including gluing someone's shoes to the floor, driving his car around at Halloween with his sidekick George (a skeleton) and ordering his two eggs any style; one scrambled, the other fried.
Dad moved home from Chilliwack to Winnipeg in 2015 to enjoy his final years surrounded with the people who loved him. He was always thrilled to visit with his brother and wife, children and grandchildren. Dad cherished this time, reflecting on what great days he had. When not spending time with family, Dad doted on his four-legged friends; Boofer, his Boston terrier and Darla, his cat.
Dad struggled for years with diabetes. He found the bright side in illness; reflecting on time spent attending to medical appointments and hospital admissions as additional time to visit with family. In December, Dad was diagnosed with cancer, which he fought valiantly, his goal being to spend as many more days as he possibly could with the family he loved dearly. Dad is now at rest. Special thanks to his physicians, homecare team and caregivers at the Health Sciences Centre. Special thanks as well to his neighbours, Jerry and Karen.
A celebration of Dad's life will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
