DOROTHY EVELYN ANDREWS
(nee NUYTTEN)

It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy. Dorothy fell ill unexpectedly, while on her annual vacation to Florida, and passed peacefully on February 5, 2020 with her two loving sons by her side.
Dorothy was born in St. Boniface on December 2, 1936 to Joseph and Joanna "Susie" Nuytten. She grew up in East St. Boniface, in a Belgian Community, affectionately known as "The Dump." She attended King George School, where she excelled, and graduated at 15 years of age. Throughout this time, she worked at her mother's restaurant, Susie's Lunch. Upon graduation, Dorothy took on another full- time job, worked hard, and never really stopped. Whether it was her career, her businesses that she owned, or her family, Mum was always hard working, and industrious.
Dorothy's passion for travelling led her on many adventures, including living in L.A. for a couple of years. While in L.A., she met the love her life, Paul, and they returned to Winnipeg, and were married in 1961. They settled in Transcona, and had their first son Joseph in 1963, followed by David in 1966. After staying home for a couple of years with her children, Dorothy started her career at Co-Op Implements as a secretary, and eventually worked her way up to office manager. After Co-Op closed their offices, Dorothy decided to become an entrepreneur, and go into business for herself. She purchased the Woodlands Hotel in 1984. Dorothy and Paul worked many long and hard hours to make the business a success. Shortly after, her sons joined her in the business, and over the next decade or so they all worked together to expand the hotel businesses. Mum and Dad were fortunate to find the time to travel together to Palm Springs, Portugal, Arizona and many other places.
After Paul's passing in 1996, Dorothy semi-retired and decided to spend more time with her beloved mother, Nan, and took up several hobbies. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, making stained glass art, bird watching, biking, Belgian bowling, Friday night dinner and cards with friends, and cooking and baking with her grandchildren. She kept family traditions alive by preparing beautiful family dinners for every occasion, and throughout the year, she would make delicious Sunday brunches, with her super amazing crepes and Belgian waffles. She was also a lifelong member and volunteer of the Belgian Club.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Paul Andrews, her parents, Joseph and Joanna Nuytten, and her sister Alice Kaye. She will be forever loved and missed by her son Joseph (Lou-Ann), Tia, Jessica Nicolas, and son David (Mardina), Alex, Elizabeth, Julius and Maximus. She also leaves behind many lifelong friends, whom she loved dearly.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have her in their lives.
The family wishes to thank good friends and neighbours, Jim and Judy Johnson for their help and compassion during this difficult time. They were with her in Florida when she fell ill, and were a Godsend for the family in our time of need.
The funeral provider is Desjardins Funeral Home. A viewing will be held at the church, prior to the service. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Thursday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m.
