JACKSON PERRIN HOPWOOD
April 22, 1942 - February 2, 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend.
Jack grew up in Winnipeg and Lake of the Woods. Jack spent many years in Toronto prior to his move east; Deer Lake, NL became his new Eastern home. This move provided many exciting adventures, interesting explorations and new friendships for Jack. "Happy Jack" as he was fondly named was a "Pied Piper" in spirit and made friends and chatted to all he met along life's journey. Illness slowed him down over the past several months and he fought on with tremendous courage. Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep while in hospital.
Predeceased by his parents, Jack (Sr.) Alix, and his beloved brother Michael; he leaves to remember his positive and interesting life with Andy (Syl), Terry (Paula), Margaret Short, Warren, Claire, Alix, and many friends and relatives.

Rest in Peace dear Jack.

Cremation and interment have taken place, as per Jack's request.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I remember Jack. He was a very pleasant fixture around the Long Branch neighborhood in SW Toronto. He always stopped to chat with folks on the street and would book trips with me at the local travel agency where I work. I remember he said on his last visit to my office that he was moving to Deer Lake, NF back in the spring of 2013. I am sure that he touched many lives with his cheerful attitude and ways. - Posted by: ricky from the Lakeshore in west end of Toronto (business and friendly aquaintance) on: May 08, 2020

  • Our family lived directly across the street from the Hopwood family. They were wonderful neighbours, Jack's Jr's father taught me to parallel park. My own father's job required him to travel Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and in his absence, " the Hopwood boys" often helped my mother and I to shovel out our driveway. At that point Tuxedo on Park Boulevard towrds Grant Avenue was rather remote. We had our own mayor and police service, it was Jack's father who raised the money for the Tuxedo Community Center. Our houses faced Huebeck Park, which will always be a park, and often when I noticed the Hopwoods playing baseball I would go out and ask them if I could join the team. They always agreed. Jack was very out going and for a while had a business in Kenora. He navigated the Lake of the Woods with great skill. I will always remember Jack's sunny and positive personality, his kindness, and his strong work ethic. After my own family moved to Oakville, Ontario, and Jack Junior relocated to Toronto he would often drop in on my parents. They were always delighted to see him to reminisce about the good old days. I am happy to hear that Jack made many friends in Deer Lake, I would imagine that terrible storm in Newfoundland made it impossible for anyone from the Hopwood family to attend. The Hopwoods made me feel like the sister they never had, I will always remember them all fondly and affectionately.
