EMILY BATALUK
Emily was born to Mary and Luke Burtnyk on October 14, 1914, the second of 11 children.
She married Nick Bataluk on October 25, 1934 and together they raised seven children as they farmed in the district of Gilbert Plains.
As the children were growing Emily used her many talents as a seamstress, gardener, baker, cook, chauffeur, and even found some time to help Nick with the haying and harvesting. She enjoyed setting a fine table for guests and was noted for her cooking. She was named "Cookie Baba" by her little great-grandson Nicholas because when he visited she always had cookies in the house and a bag of cookies to take home. She was called Cookie Baba by all her great-grandchildren when they were little. She found so much joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emily loved to sing with her family. She also sang in the church choir for many, many years and was active in the women's auxiliary. She loved travelling and in her later life was able to visit Rome and Israel.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband Nick, father Luke, mother Mary, brothers, Paul, Steve (Anne) and John, sisters, Jean, Nell (Don), Mary (John) and Ann, brother-in-law George, sons-in-law, Joe, Bryan and James, and grandson Garry.
Memories of Emily will be cherished and fondly remembered by children, Theresa, Joyce, Hope, Sonia (Brian), Dennis (Norma), Michael (Wendy) and Mary Jayne; sisters, Alice, Adeline and Shirley, grandchildren, Tammie (Brian), Teresa, Tracey (Rick), Brock (Sophie), Bradley (Corinne), Terina (Darcy), Christopher (Michelle) and Ryan, great-grandchildren, Chris, Josh, Lauren (Greg), Jacklyn, Tamera (Shane), Nicholas (Nicolette), Tia (Dustin), Justin, Tenley, Ben and Josh, and Graydon; great-great- grandchildren, Brexton and Theo, and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in memory of Emily may be made to the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, P.O. Box 179, Gilbert Plains, Manitoba R0L 0X0.
Prayers will be offered on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.
