ROBERT ALLAN DAHL
November 26, 1939 to February 21, 2020

Those lucky enough to spend time with Bob could always count on two things being on offer - his opinion on just about anything, and a cold beer. Always ready to laugh at life and himself, friends and fun trailed behind Bob like a stray puppy and wherever he went, laughter followed. But all good things must end and on February 21, 2020, Bob passed away peacefully in Winnipeg.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Helen; daughters, Darlene (Chris) and Tawnie, and grandchildren, Adem, Aliyah, Piper and Matthew. He is survived by his sister Velda; brother Bruce (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Born in Portage la Prairie, Bob moved to Winnipeg to attend high school, where he became a journeyman printer, working many years for Systems Business Forms until his retirement in 1999.
But that's just where he spent his time.
Where he LIVED was Laclu, Ontario, at his much loved cabin. With his usual sagacity, in 1965 Bob insisted he and Helen needed a cabin before they even owned a house, so a weekend with fishing friends turned into a real estate adventure. The source of lifelong friendships and the location of annual family gatherings, Laclu is where he spent weekends, vacations and eventually his retirement. No matter the weather, "the sun always shines at Laclu."
Ever in search of sun and good times, Bob and Helen became snowbirds, dividing their time between Laclu and Lakeland, Florida, where many more wonderful friends were made.
A sports lover, Bob played hockey and racquetball and found a love for golf in retirement. When he wasn't playing, he was watching golf, the Bombers or the Jets on television, often debating - loudly - the teams' merits with good friends.
Bob lived life to the fullest and he leaves all who knew him rich with memories.
The family extends their gratitude to the medical staff and caregivers from Manitoba home care services and the Riverview Health Centre, and to family and friends who provided tremendous support in Bob's final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Laclu this summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
