ADELINE DORIS JOHNSON
Adeline was brought into this world at the Ste. Rose General Hospital on August 3, 1954. She was predeceased by her baby sister Maureen (1956) and her father Daniel W. Monkman (2007). She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 43 years, Linden Conrad Johnson, her mother Marie Malcolm, sisters, Sandra (late Fred) Maytwayashing, Noreen (Glen) Monkman and brother Arthur (Lisa) Malcolm and their large families. Also mourning are Linden's sister Marla Dianne, his brother Duane, daughter Rebecca and spouse Jo-Anne. She also leaves to mourn the large collection of aunties, uncles and cousins from the Kuko Noononse (grandmother) Malcom Nation of Ebb & Flow, MB.
Lindy and Adeline were united as mere youngsters at the tender age of 17 in 1972. Knowing each other since childhood they were already very familiar with each other. The true bonding love that they shared was admired by all who knew them. They were married in Vogar in December 1977 by the late Rev. Jalmar Erickson. They moved from Vogar to Winnipeg in 1980 where they began a new life. Adeline found a job at a retail outlet for Wescott Fashions where she worked the floor selling fashion wear. Within two months she was promoted to Store Manager. It wasn't long after that senior management noticed the remarkable work ethics of this beautiful lady. She was soon thereafter promoted to Manager of the large Wescott Fashions warehouse on Fife Street. She was responsible for the shipment of several semi loads of garments to California daily. She had over 30 young Asian immigrants who loved her as she loved them.
After the closing of Wescott, she became employed at AML Wireless Systems and at Westbourne Industries where she became Warehouse Manager. During the 30 years in Winnipeg, she lost only four days of work due to illness.
Adeline and Lindy worked hard and always chased a dream. Together they achieved things that they could only dream of growing up with humble beginnings in Vogar. In 1975 they drove to Nashville, TN. Later years took them to Orlando, FL and Las Vegas and many other ventures to the US. Adeline spent countless hours remodelling their quaint little home in Weston to a beautiful palace that was featured in the Winnipeg Free Press Winnipeg Homes Edition. Sylvia Kuzyk, from CKY News, did live weather forecasts and commentary from their beautiful garage that was adorned with vintage signs and a glittering array on neon. They made their home available to everyone and indeed everyone came. The poor, the destitute, millionaires, cops, detectives, lawyers, car clubs and bikers.... they all came.
After retirement in 2010, they moved back home to Ashern so Adeline could reside close to her loving mother and her family. It didn't take long for Adeline and Lindy to start the transformation of their new 60 year old home into another palace. They built a large park behind their home for their community. This park is frequently used by local children, elders, church groups, weddings and town's people for evening walks, lunch breaks or lawn-mower cruises.
Adeline was the CEO of their business, LindysFurnitureland, that they started and built on their own without financial assistance from anyone or group. Adeline worked so hard to build this business to a success that is currently envied by several large furniture venues in Winnipeg. The reason for this success is solely the hard work, the commitment and the genuine love, trust and affection to their customers.
She was the kindest, most caring person that anyone knew. She always loved her cats and they adored her, faithfully obeying her at all times. When the weather was rough, she would always mention the animals and the birds and think of their struggles. She loved nature which was so evident in her yard adorned with flowers, bird houses and ponds for the little birds and the deer. She never ever had a negative word for anyone. Everyone received the same beautiful smile filled with love from her.
Everyone loved her so much. No one could love her more than me. She was my rock, my love and my reason for living. I can't imagine life without her. I will still tell her every day that I love her. That will continue until the day that we meet again.
A celebration of Adeline's life will be held at the Ashern Centennial Hall on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. with a luncheon after the services. We welcome all of you and will be proud and grateful for your presence.

Adeline, a remarkable woman of the land who I was always so proud of. She encompassed the true Indian/Metis spirit. In our youth she showed this old city gal how to dig snake root, catch frogs and snakes which supplemented income. She would laugh her warm girlish laugh as she coaxed me to learn/speak Saulteaux. Too soon she joins our many recent ancestors, where she will continue to cook/bake the traditional foods she was so talented for. May your hearts feel less pain and sheds less tears,..Lindy, Marie and cousins, knowing she is caring for them there. With love and respect (manaaji'iwewin) - Posted by: Debi Spence (first cousin) on: Mar 01, 2020
