AGNES REID
(nee LAVALLEE)
July 24, 1927 - February 23, 2020
Agnes had a passion for words. She mentioned to Grant that she won the spelling bee in elementary school, and he used to tease her by telling ALL about his wife, the great speller, to which she would respond with some very colourful language! She began working in Classified Ads of the Free Press in the mid 1950s, retiring some 30 years later as the Head Cashier in the Accounting Department. Surrounded by print, she was an avid follower of current events and politics. In her later years, she did her 'homework' every day, which included the crossword puzzle and cryptoquote. She was a voracious reader who travelled far and wide in the words of others, often saying, "I don't know what I would do without my books."
Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Grant, in 2000; and her daughter, Darlene, in 2007. She is survived by son, Gary (Sharon); and daughters, Donna (Roger) and Barbara; her three sisters, Anne, Doreen and Marie; as well as her great extended family.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Darcy Johnson for taking good care of Agnes over the years, as well as the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for the comfort they provided in her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Transcona Golf Course on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.
