DOROTHY ANNE LORD
(nee ROSSITER)
Dorothy, known by many as "Dottie"" was born November 23, 1925 in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Rouge. She also spent many happy times as a child and teenager with close friends in Portage la Prairie. She graduated from Kelvin High School in 1941/1942 and met her husband Ken at the "Young Peoples" youth group at Rosedale United Church. They married in 1948 and moved to Fort Garry where they lived and raised their three children, Cindy, Jeffrey and Tracey. Prior to becoming a stay at home mom, Dorothy worked at Great West Life in Human Resources. Dorothy was also a lifelong volunteer, dedicating her time to the YWCA where she became vice president, and serving on the boards of McMillan House and the Winnipeg chapter of the Canadian Council of Women. Dorothy was also a very involved member of Fort Garry United Church where she spent many years in charge of the church archives and made numerous lifelong friends. Dorothy lived independently in her home on Waterford Avenue well into her 80s, insisting on shoveling her own sidewalk and cutting her own lawn.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Norman Rossiter; brother Robert; sister Norma; brother-in-law Paul; sister-in- law Betty; brother-in-law Murray; and niece Elizabeth.
Dorothy will be united again with her husband Ken, who passed away in 1988.
Her children, Cindy Audette (Paul), Jeff Lord and Tracey Lord (Scott Doblee); grandchildren, Christophe Audette (Karen Diggins) and Philippe Audette; great-grandson Calvin Audette; and nieces and nephews will continue to cherish their memories of Dorothy.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private springtime gathering will be planned for Dorothy's family and friends. We hope to reconnect with those of you who loved Dorothy to join us in celebrating her life.
Many heartfelt thanks to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for the care, kindness and respect shown to our mother during her life and in her last hours. It is much appreciated.
