DMETRO CHIUPKA

Peacefully on Saturday, February 29, 2020, our beloved uncle passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home, 3A.
He was the youngest of five children, born August 19, 1928, in Weiden, Manitoba.
Metro was predeceased by his parents, Iwan (John) and Teklie (nee Ciupczyszyn), brothers, Nick and Peter, sisters, Lucretia Pereski and Stella Hrushka.
He is survived by his nephews, Ernie and Melvin Chuipka and Peter Hrushka, nieces, Leona Solomon, Barbara Hedley, Sharon Hrushka, Joan Pshebniski, and extended family.
Due to his vision loss at age 11, Metro became a resident of and educated at St. Josephs Vocational School, school for the Blind. He was an Honours student and made many lifelong friends.
Metro was employed through CNIB, operating their many concessions stands, along with being on their board for many years. His locations included Winnipeg General Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, Weststeel, CP Rails and CN Symington Yards and Revenue Canada's two locations. After 38 years service, Metro retired in 1984 to enjoy his pastimes.
He enjoyed his audio reading books, going to the symphony or attending the horse races. He was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and listened to their games faithfully on his Grundig radio, enjoying a smoke from one of his pipe collection. Metro kept in touch with his lifelong friends, doing some travelling from the East to West Coasts to visit with them.
Shortly after his 91st birthday, he moved to Holy Family Nursing Home. He was a gentle, soft spoken person whom leaves behind many precious memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to Holy Family Nursing Home staff 3A for all their compassionate care and support.
Prayers will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street on Friday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rorketon, MB on Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Weiden Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery in Weiden, MB.
In dedication to his memory, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to CNIB Winnipeg.
