CHRISTOPHER RHODES
(WALLY HAVRILENKO)
November 18, 1953 - February 27, 2020
He was predeceased by his father Alex Havrilenko, and grandparents, Anna and John Wassylyk.
Chris leaves to mourn, his wife Michela Rhodes; mother Stefania Didur; sister Olha Hnatyshyn (Greg); brothers, Roger Havrilenko (Bonita) and Tony Havrilenko (Lori); nieces and nephew and their families.
Wally's love of music was evident at a young age. Of course, coming from a Ukrainian family, he learned to play the accordion which led him to mastering other keyboards and synthesizers.
In 1980, Wally realized one of his dreams by recording an album, titled Just in my Dreams. One of his instrumentals, Helen's Song, won the award for the Best Canadian Original Piano Composition.
Wally played in numerous bands during his career as he travelled throughout North America. Being the opening act for Supertramp was one of his highlights. More recently, aside from performing his own music, Chris was working with promoting and recording new artists in his studio. He also shared his love of music by teaching children piano.
Chris loved his Sheltie sheepdogs, Cody, Geordie and Penny Lane.
We will always remember him for his kindness, sense of humour, zest for life and decades of great music. Wally will live in our hearts forever.

I first saw Christopher playing at the Velvet Glove. I had a great outfit from Le Chateau on and he asked if he could borrow it, sure I said. We had this great connection then he told me his dream to move to the US and marry an American gal. One day I'm watching love connection and boom there's Christopher. Little did I know he was Ukrainian like my father, Wayne Walker. - Posted by: Christopher Mckellar (fan) on: Jan 19, 2024

For some reason Chris Rhodes crossed my mind tonight. I am a violinist and I played only one gig with him many years ago in Eatons Winnipeg. I was young at the time. It was a great experience and he made a very positive and memorable impression on me which I have always carried with me. All the best to his family and friends. I remember a great guy! - Posted by: Andrew Morican (musician who played with him) on: May 17, 2022

Very talented guy and a real hustler. Played many a gig with him on Grand piano and Moog. Fondly remembered. A sweet soul, no doubt charming the angels as we speak. - Posted by: Stephen W Shawcross (Band mate of Wally's in the early 80's in Calgary) on: Jul 07, 2021

My brother and I shot photos and video of Wally Havrilenko, including a private house party on November 30, 1980 where he was promoting his new album. His drummer was Steve Shawcross. Gaye Delorme and Cheryl Fisher also performed that evening. Sorry to hear of his passing. Our sincere condolences. - Posted by: Malcolm Achtman (Client) on: Sep 26, 2020
