OWEN TYSON TURNER
June 3, 1931 - February 29, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Owen Tyson Turner, on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Owen was 88 years old.
He will be lovingly remembered by Evelyn, wife of 67 years; son Jeff Turner (Dianne Dodsworth), daughter Marlene Itzke (John) and daughter Lorna Smith (Don); as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Owen was predeceased by his parents, his brother, and his young daughter.
Owen was born on June 3, 1931, and grew up on a farm outside of Holmfield, Manitoba. As a young man, he moved to Winnipeg and met his wife Evelyn. Owen worked at Manitoba Telephone System for 36 years. During his career, he worked in The Pas, Dauphin and Winnipeg. During this time, Owen and Ev enjoyed taking the family camping to various locations across Canada. However, there was always a requirement that there be a golf course nearby! Wherever Owen lived, he was active in the local curling and golf clubs, including being a past president of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg. He was a past Chartered President of the Tricity Toastmasters. As the children became more independent, summers were spent around the Gimli area. Once retired, they decided to move to the Sandy Hook golf course complex where they enjoyed many years of golfing, friends, and puttering around their home and yard. He helped organize the Senior Men's Golf League. During the winter, Owen and Ev spent many years being Snowbirds, enjoying their home in Mesa. And of course, the golf courses!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Owen's memory to the charity of your choice.
As was Owen's wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • From a chance meeting in a golf course rain shelter at a Gimli golf course we were introduced to Owen and Ev by daughter Lorna. Lorna was known to Gary from John Taylor Collegiate where I was a teacher and Lorna a student. From that introduction we spent several decades as golfing, camping, card playing friends and neighbors in Gimli, Sandy Hook and Mesa. We count ourselves very fortunate to have spent the times we did with the Turners. To Ev and family we regret the loss of Owen but celebrate the good times we enjoyed together. Owen was forever a gentleman, leader, athlete and all around great guy! - Posted by: Gary and Sandra Jones (Friends) on: Mar 07, 2020

  • Sad to hear about your Dad, will be missed. - Posted by: Gerry (Lorna and Don friend) on: Mar 07, 2020
