DAVID MINUK

Born December 14, 1940. Died in his 80th year on March 5, 2020, in Winnipeg.
Dave grew up in the North End on Burrows Avenue. He attended William Whyte Elementary, Aberdeen Junior High, and St. John's High. He went on to achieve a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics in 1962 (and discovered he wasn't as smart as he thought he was). After eight unsatisfactory years working as an engineer, he decided to change course and earned an MBA from Western in 1972. However, his most satisfactory career was 30 years as a realtor.
Dave enjoyed many sports: tennis, hockey, and judo. He had a 5th degree black belt and was president of Judo Manitoba for 34 years. Due to neck surgery, he was forced to abandon his mediocre sporting career.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Isadore and Bessie Minuk. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda (Rosalind), sons, Bernard (Stephanie) of Ottawa and Leonard (Susan Wingert) of Winnipeg, his grandchildren, Devorah, Avraham, Alden, and Alec, his sister Cynthia (Alan) Marks of Toronto, and many lifelong friends. Although he didn't always express it, he was very proud of the accomplishments of his sons.
Dave's family would like to thank the staff at the Seven Oaks Oncology Clinic and Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care. A special thanks to his son Leonard for his help in navigating the enigma that is the Manitoba health system.

  • Dear Linda and family, Please accept our sincere sympathy on Dave's passing, I had the privilege of meeting you and Dave many years ago when looking for a real estate agent. Dave never hesitated to share advice and assistance for further real estate transactions throughout the years.. Dave was professional, knowledgeable and always instilled confidence that he put the client first. He was a kind and considerate man, a true gentleman, "A Gutte Neshuma" who will always be remembered with affection and respect. May his memory be a blessing. - Posted by: Carol and George Goldenstein (Clients) on: Apr 08, 2020

  • I met Dave in second year EP, a hybrid class of five students. Dave and I were the runts of the litter. We were lab partners in our electrical labs and physics labs. Dave had a rare ability to break equipment. We had access to the library stacks as we were in an honours program. We spent our time there playing chess, not studying. Although (like Dave) I found EP very difficult I enjoyed learning about so many different topics. I still have a love for mathematics. and physics. And I never failed an exam (thank you Dr. Whitmore for that. 50R in Third Year Physics.) I picked up Dave in my car pool. I always greeted him with "Dave, don't slam the door." Wham! On his annual visits to Ottawa for Judo Manitoba I would pick him up at his hotel to have him come to our home for dinner. "Dave, don't slam the door." Wham! Dave and I skied when he lived in Montreal and played tennis when I visited Winnipeg. Dave was a true, honest friend for more than 60 years. I would love to hear one more door slam. - Posted by: Gary. in Ottawa (Classmate + friend) on: Mar 23, 2020
