WENDY JOAN COLLETT
(formerly REES, SCOTT)
November 16, 1947 - March 7, 2020
She will be greatly missed by partner, Lennard Termeer, sister Shirley Liba, niece Jennifer Liba, nephews, Jeff Liba (Julie Rempel) and Chris Liba (Carolyn Klassen), great-nieces, Kelsey Lacombe, Madison Lacombe, Sophie Liba, Siena Liba and great-nephew Jordan Lacombe; stepdaughters, Debbie Guppy (Marc), Shannon Alexanderson (Peter), stepson Glen Scott (Wendy), stepgrandchildren, AJ Bartosh (Tina), Matt Bartosh (Biljana), Austin and Aiden Alexanderson, and step-great-grandchildren, Jayla, Kelsey and Laila.
Wendy was born and raised in Norwood in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was a force to be reckoned with, always taking challenges in stride and never allowing obstacles even like her poor eyesight to get in her way. After graduating from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, Wendy worked for Workers Compensation and CIBC, where she thrived building relationships with both clients and colleagues.
Growing up, and even throughout much of her adulthood, the family cottage in Malachi, Ontario played a very important role for Wendy. Summers spent there meant travelling by train from the city, exploring the outdoors and enjoying all that nature had to offer; whether it was blueberry picking alongside her mother or fishing with her father. Malachi supplied her with a lifelong appreciation for cottage living, which was rekindled in recent years when partner Len shared his cabin with her at Otter Falls.
Not one to sit still and always ready to share an opinion or two (especially with her older sister Shirley), Wendy embraced life to its fullest, filling a room with her signature laugh. She loved to entertain; which meant lots of cooking and baking for friends and family and undoubtedly included the Collett-family Christmas pudding. Infamously known for her impeccable manners; Wendy valued proper etiquette, a perfectly set table and believed a 'please and thank-you' always went a long way.
Wendy cherished all the 'loves-in-her life'. Yet, it was her partnership with Len over the last seven years that brought her tremendous joy, not to mention his two Golden Retrievers - as she affectionately referred to them as the boys. Len and Wendy weaved a life together that included everything from trips to Florida, home renovation projects, cottage clean-ups, outdoor gardening to fishing - always enjoying each others' company.
Family had true meaning to Wendy and she dotingly cared for her mother for years, as well as her first husband who preceded her death. Notably though, Wendy loved and adored her older sister Shirley. Their friendship grew as they matured and was strengthened (as only the sister bond can) through shopping, trips to Florida, running errands together and a commitment to daily conversations. Wendy cherished their relationship.
She will be missed by her many friends, her cousins and their families, along with her stepchildren and stepgrandchildren, and niece and nephews and their families.
Wendy was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Bertha Collett, first husband Rick Rees, stepson Harris Rees, and brother-in-law Hon. Peter M. Liba.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Wendy's honour on Monday, March 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Coutu Chapel, 680 Archibald St., Winnipeg, MB.
Donations in Wendy's honour can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

I moved to Winnipeg in 1997, when I was just 25 years old. I ended up living in an apartment block in St. Boniface with Wendy as my neighbour. Despite a pretty significant age gap, we ended up becoming friends and passed more than few afternoons chatting away across our balconies. In winter, our conversations moved inside to her living room. Wendy was a great neighbour, and over the course of 12 years we shared quite a lot —including a truly alarming number of fire drills. I enjoyed Wendy’s laugh and her no-nonsense attitude. l also enjoyed, on MANY occasions, an unexpected plate of food being thrust through my apartment door. Her Yorkshire pudding was fantastic! Wendy also watched my cats for me when I travelled – first Al, and later Jersey. Both cats loved Wendy. Wendy actually joined me when I had to say good-bye to Al for the final time. And she was there to welcome Jersey when I adopted him. Jersey went through an awkward ‘teen’ stage, and I can still hear Wendy asking, ‘Are you sure he’s a cat?’ Wendy was a lovely person and I think of her every time I hear Bob Marley. Bob Marley was Wendy’s favourite vacuuming music – and she had to have the music loud in order to hear Bob over the vacuum. Not bad memories to have of a person—laughter, home cooking and Bob Marley. I stayed in touch with Wendy after I moved, and of course she came to check out my new digs. I only wish we could have had one more visit. My condolences to all who loved her. - Posted by: Shelley Jesseau (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2020

Wendy was indeed a good friend with a beautiful heart. The very best as 'Best Woman' to Adrian at our wedding 9.9.99! Throughout the years and the miles apart we remained in contact as if it were only yesterday. Condolences to all family and other friends but I am sure she will be keeping 'tabs' on us all from her cottage in the sky as she has always done whilst on earth.
