GREGORY DALE MILLER
Dale proudly hailed from Campbellford, Ontario. He was born May 14, 1940, to Gordon Lyle and Margaret Grace (Knox) Miller. Big brother to Sharon, Mary Anne (Darroch) and the late Richard (Mel). He had a wonderful childhood exploring the woods and lakes of the Trent River area.
Dale was an accomplished clarinet player heading up the Music Men and The Dale Miller Band. He played many high school dances and dance halls. It was a cherished time of his life.
After joining the R.C.A.F. he was stationed in St. John's, Newfoundland where he met his "sweet young thing", Ann(ie) Cole. They wed in June 1963. Daughters, Sharon and Brenna arrived while living in St. John's. After crossing Canada, Winnipeg became their home and two more children, Leslie and Jason arrived.
After 10 years with the R.C.A.F., Dale joined Transport Canada, D.N.D. and upon retirement joined Sears Polo Park, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Fishing, cars, snooker, country music and family time were his favourite pastimes. His proudest accomplishment, besides being a husband and father, was being Pa to his nine grandchildren. His first grandchild Karleigh was born on his birthday just as he predicted, eight more grandchildren followed, Matthew, Noah, Liv, Hayden, Cole, Jack, Jon and Emily. His daughters were always introduced as, "this is my Bee-yoo-ti-ful Daughter!" his granddaughters later shared the same intro and his grandsons were announced by, "that handsome kid is my grandson, doesn't he look like me?" He loved his three sons-in-law, Mark Evans, Murray Sneesby and Jamie Abbott like they were his own sons. His only son, Jay, was his Jets and Bombers game watching companion.
Over the past year when his health was failing he referred to our mom as his Angel and we couldn't agree more. Their brand of love was unique and lives in each of our own happy families.
Anne and Dale's extended family and friendships spanned from coast to coast. The years of laughter and good times will be forever cherished by our mom. Countless emails and phone calls of love and care have sustained our family. Many thanks to all.
An immeasurable thank you to Dad's sister, Sharon, who stepped away from her own life to be with our family. She has been more than a sister, aunt, friend, nurse, and companion, and her grace has helped guide us through this difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Minuk and Gina, Dr. Christiansen and Christine, and Dr. Stephenson, health care nurses, Trish and Kelly. A special thank you to Dr. Martin Karpinski.
A celebration of Dale's wonderful life will be held 5:00 p.m. on May 27, 2020, at the ANAF Veterans Club, 3584 Portage Avenue.
