It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Rosa Fia on Friday, March 13, 2020.
She will be deeply missed and leaves to mourn her sons, Paolo (Christine) and Roberto (Nicole); grandchildren, Mateo, Eston, Alessio and Amare; sister Josephine; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosa was predeceased by her mother Lena; sister Antoinette; and brother Carlo.
Rosa was born in the small town of Villarosa on the island of Sicily, Italy. Rosa arrived in Canada on April 8, 1957. She worked as a seamstress in her early years, but found her passion as a hairstylist where she enjoyed a long career helping her clientele look their best. Rosa was passionate about gardening, where she spent many summer evenings tending to her tomato plants. This followed her other passion, which was cooking. Her two boys now realize how spoiled they were eating authentic Italian dishes almost every night while growing up.
Rosa loved her family and enjoyed extended family gatherings - especially at the cottage at Grand Marais. Rosa loved to travel and enjoyed a few visits back to her home country Italy with her two boys. In her later years, Rosa loved wintering in Mexico with her closest friends and looked forward to the annual trip. She had many friends and enjoyed sharing the joys of life with them.
Thank you mom for inspiring us to be zestful for all that life offers. We will miss your humour, laughter and enthusiasm for living life to the fullest.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Simkin Centre which mom considered her second family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We wanted to share some fond memories of our Aunt Rosa, who we lovingly called "Auntie". Aunt Rosa and our mother made up the dynamic duo that we will forever remember as "Ro and Jo". Auntie was always happy and excited to see you, as she would offer you homemade food as soon as you walked through the door. She would always make you feel special and loved, sneaking you a treat every so often. We were fortunate enough to share many holiday gatherings with her, Paul and Rob and have many happy memories from those times together. When we were younger, we took day trips to Grand Beach almost every weekend in the summer months with all of us squished into one car (before seat belt laws came into effect) times will will never forget. Later, at the cottage, we enjoyed many fun summer weekends together. Auntie would putter around in her garden and often bake pizza which, of course, she would share with us all. Auntie loved to buy lottery tickets and one funny story comes to mind. She reluctantly purchased a raffle ticket with the grand prize being a car. She did not want to buy the ticket because she said she would rather win money. Well, she ended up winning the car! We were very saddened to hear of her passing and want to send our condolences to Paul, Rob and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Love, Zia Josa, Daniela, Olivia, Linda, Dino and our families - Posted by: Daniela Bews (Niece) on: Mar 22, 2020

  • My condolances Paul to you and your family. Even though we were not exactly close, I do understand what it means to lose a parent. My sister and I are thinking of you and Robert... Pauline Fia - Posted by: Pauline Fia (2nd or 3rd cousins...) on: Mar 22, 2020

  • I have fond memories of Rosa , her mom, Paul, Rob and me joking in their kitchen as dinner was being prepared. Or how she got mad at me, Paul and Rob when we set up a ping pong table in her basement. So many good memories growing up with Rosa as my neighbor. You will be missed - Posted by: Michael Caligiuri (Family friend) on: Mar 21, 2020
