HUGHENE ELLEN BAIRD
Left to cherish Hughene's memory are her children, Shelley Johnson (Neals), Bruce (Denise), Marcia Smith (Dale); grandchildren, Austin, Kendra, Erik and Sara; and her brother Bruce Britt (Deanna). She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Florence, and her husband John.
Hughene enjoyed working as an Executive Secretary for Mr. Bob Chipman at Megill - Stephenson for many years.
Hughene loved her family deeply and she enjoyed sharing her passion of travelling with her family. Hughene and John enjoyed many trips over their 38 years of marriage. Visits to Hawaii, London, Boston and Prince Edward Island created many cherished memories. Hughene had an active lifestyle, whether it be curling at the Charleswood Community Centre, golfing at Breezy Bend Golf Club, weight training for 17 years, yoga or Tai Chi.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, the doctors, nurses, and health care aides at Health Sciences Centre's Emergency Department and Concordia Hospital, and Dr. Hawryluck from the Neurosurgery Clinic for the excellent care that Hughene received.
Hughene valued her very strong friendships. The love and support through visits, emails and phone calls brightened her days during her hospital stay. Connecting with friends and the laughs shared were precious.
In accordance with Hughene's wishes, cremation has taken place.
We have celebrated Hughene's life with a private family gathering at one of her favourite restaurants.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, they may make a donation in Hughene's memory to MacKinnon's Y-Not? Anti-Poverty Program Inc., 14 Meadowbank Road, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1N8 or a charity of their choice.
Hughene requests - "Raise a pint and remember me as you last saw me"

I met Hughene (Britt) in the summer of '59 when we both worked at D Ackland's and Son on Higgins Ave. She was a counter girl in the cafeteria while I worked in the lumber yard. We dated during the summer, bowling at the Roxy Lanes on Henderson Hwy. I remember getting a post card from "Donner's Pass" as she travelled west with her family. She said "Misery Loves Company", so she must have missed me. Why do I remember her? Why do I think of her? After all these years! Missing you, Hughene! - Posted by: Dan Koniuck (Teenage friend) on: Jan 18, 2021

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Hughene. Although we lost touch after I moved to BC, I still have fond memories of the fun times we spent on the curling ice and after the games, where we had many laughs and serious talks. I remember how proud she was of all her kids, who at that time, were just beginning their adult lives. She was full of fun and a good friend that I will remember always. My deepest condolences to all her family. - Posted by: Judy MacKenzie (Friend) on: Mar 21, 2020
