PETER WILLIAM HOGG
Born in Churchill, Peter was raised in Winnipeg. He received his law degree from the University of Manitoba and was a Crown Prosecutor for the Province of Manitoba before working for the Federal Department of Justice, first in Calgary and then in Ottawa for the War Crimes Unit. He continued as a Federal Crown Prosecutor in Vancouver before working as a Provincial Prosecutor in British Columbia. He was an outstanding prosecutor, a leading wiretap expert, and he conducted some of the most complex cases in the province. Peter was a true barrister in every sense of the word.
Peter was also an author; his novel "Crimes of War" was the winner of the first Chapters/Robertson Davies Prize in 1999.
Peter loved to travel, particularly to the battlefields of Northern France. He enjoyed outdoor fitness and completed several marathons.
Peter had an irreverent wit and loved language. He was a loyal friend.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, William and Marguerite (Peggy) Hogg.
He is survived by his sister Susan Zacharias of Winnipeg, nieces, Alyssa and Sara, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Peter had a relative in the UK, Nancy Jackson, who was my godmother. Peter and I were the same age and he came for a holiday aged 18. He visited his much loved battlefields in France and then we spent a couple of days sightseeing. We went by train to Pevensey Bay on the South Coast to see the castle. My mother now lives nearby and every time I visit I pass the castle and think of Peter. I visited for a fortnight the following year in Winnipeg and we had a lot of fun. I am going to go and get the photo album out now. I am saddened to belatedly hear of his passing. We had drifted apart after some years of letter writing in our 20’s. I will always remember him fondly. - Posted by: John Moffatt (Penpal) on: Aug 25, 2024

Peter was both a colleague and a good friend. He was hard-working, incredibly smart, very quick witted and wonderfully funny. He will be missed and the world will be a much less interesting place without him in it. My deepest sympathies to his family. - Posted by: Pam Clarke (friend) on: Mar 28, 2020
