CHARLES WAYNE NELSON

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Wayne Nelson, 81, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on March 13, 2020, while surrounded by his children at his bedside.
Charles is survived by his sister Rochelle (Richard); his sons, Brian (Paula) and Dave (Tracey); his daughters, Laura (Gary) and Tish (Brent); grandchildren, Brittany, Brett, Sara (Carlos), Alyssa, Julia, Kade, Pierce and RaeAnn, and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Pat, and his wife Judy.
Born August 9, 1938, in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Charles shared his life with his beautiful bride and wife of 45 years, Judy, until her passing in 2008. A proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces and following his retirement - a member of the Corps of Commissionaires, Charles lived a life of service. The discipline, patriotism and belief in hard work that he learned never left him.
Charles' comical stories and sense of humour will be remembered. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially gathering together around the holidays, or to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. He was happiest when with family, dearly loved his children and got so much joy in seeing his grandkids grow. As a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, he always enjoyed visiting his local branch to meet up with friends, play pool, and share a few laughs. Golf was his passion, and the PGA has definitely lost one of its' greatest fans.
While our hearts are breaking as we say goodbye, we smile knowing that Charles has been reunited with his wife, and family and friends he has not seen in a long time. We take comfort that he is in a wonderful place where he will be enjoying their company once again, and golfing to his heart's content.
A small, private service will be held for immediate family at his church, while a larger Celebration of Life event will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My condolences for your loss. Charlie was always a character to work with when we worked together at the airport. He would always crack jokes, or randomly start singing on the radio in the wee hours of the morning when we worked overnights. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Phil Ioculano (Old Co-worker) on: Mar 23, 2020
