MARY MONASTYRSKI
She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at St. Joseph's Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, MB.
Mary is survived by one son Jerry Monastyrski (Annette), one daughter-in-law, Julie Monastyrski, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all who she dearly loved.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Morris, son Paul, sister Olga Stone, and sister Annie Chopyk.
Mary attended Devon School where she excelled in spelling and writing. She then for some time worked in Winnipeg at Nutty Club Foods.
After meeting Morris and marrying, they moved to their home in Sandilands, Manitoba. For a number of years Mom enjoyed working at Friendly Family Farms in Steinbach. In 1998 they moved to Steinbach, Manitoba. Upon Morris's passing in 2009 she moved to Winnipeg and lived at the Seine River Haven apartments. In 2017 she was moved to St. Joseph's Personal Care Home.
While living in Sandilands and Steinbach, she enjoyed cooking up wonderful Ukrainian foods, creating vegetable and flower gardens and going out berry and mushroom picking. Mary and Morris very much enjoyed bingos anywhere and especially Club Regent Casino, where they always won, but seem to never have lost.
Mom had so many wonderful friends and relatives throughout her years that she loved dearly, and some that were especially near and dear to her. Thanks to you all for giving Mom a brighter life.
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing, a public service for Mary will not be held. A small, family only service will be held graveside at Zhoda Community Cemetery in the coming weeks.
The family would like to thank Father Roy, nurse Maria and all the wonderful staff at St. Joseph's Personal Care Home for the love, compassion and care they provided to Mom in the last two and a half years.
To all those who would have wanted to attended a service, instead please keep Mom in your thoughts and prayers and share your tribute to her on the Birchwood Funeral Chapel website.
If friends and family so desire, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba; the Zhoda Community Cemetery, or any charitable organization of your choice.
Rest in Peace
